Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Details Leaked by Dataminers

Details for CD Projekt Red’s multiplayer mode for Cyberpunk 2077 have been leaked by dataminers, revealing some of what is planned for the highly anticipated feature. Although players are well aware that the mode won’t arrive anytime soon, some of what CDPR might have in store is certainly worth taking a look at.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been mired in controversy and game-breaking glitches since its release a little over a month ago. Many players have either put the game down or haven’t bothered picking it up due to its lack of content and its poor last-gen performance. In one case, a player dedicated to obtaining the Platinum Trophy had his victory cut short by, as expected, a game crash during the rolling credit sequence.

As expected from the digital spelunkers also deeply invested in Cyberpunk 2077, the first details of the game’s upcoming multiplayer mode have been leaked. Although the source of the leak wanted to stay anonymous, the executable files found in-game are easily verifiable by examining them. This means that everyone in possession of Cyberpunk 2077 could theoretically unlock and verify the leaks for themselves.

So far, the executable file was discovered to contain two distinct multiplayer game modes. The first is called “Heists,” which functions similarly to a standard single-player quest. It’s also purported to come with dedicated functions and editor helper descriptions, as well as additional related functions. According to a few of these functions, CDPR’s plans included a stricter, four class selection system.

The second of the game modes is a more straight forward “Deathmatch.” The functions for the deathmatch mode mostly refer to the various text one would see in the kill feed. From the style of the writing, it appears that CDPR may have had the idea of Johnny Silverhand being an announcer at some point.

Additionally, the executable file currently hints at P2P (“peer-to-peer”) connections with some host authority rather than dedicated servers. That doesn’t rule out the possibility that they may switch to dedicated servers once the modes are public. Cyberpunk 2077‘s multiplayer won’t be out before single-player is fixed, meaning CDPR could cut several things, the modes and functions themselves included.

Despite how far out the multiplayer mode is, it’s interesting to see what CDPR’s early plans were. On one hand, the similarities to Grand Theft Auto‘s Heists are undeniable, although the deathmatch mode can be seen as a peculiar addition for what was once considered an open-world RPG. That said, with CDPR hard at work at restoring their reputation, there may be a guarantee for a riveting online multiplayer experience.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions in development.
