With Pokemon GO recently having started introducing Pokemon from the Kalos region into the game, an entire generation of Pokemon will soon be coming to shake up the game. While many of these Pokemon can be considered ordinary, there are quite a few powerhouses as well that many players may not know what to do with.
Considering the ever evolving meta of Pokemon GO‘s PVP scene, the new Pokemon that will eventually be implemented in-game will definitely change how some players approach the battle league. However, some of these Pokemon may be more expected than others based on how popular they were with the PVP scene within the mainline Pokemon titles.
It is unknown when these Pokemon will be officially added into Pokemon GO, but it will most likely happen at some point after the region celebration events are complete. Some of these Pokemon may even be exclusive as raid bosses available for a limited amount of time due to their legendary or mythical status.
With each generation of Pokemon having at least one pseudo-legendary Pokemon, Goodra fills this slot for the Kalos region and Pokemon’s sixth generation. This Pokemon is a pure dragon-type, making it only weak to ice, dragon, and fairy-type moves. It is also resistant to fire, water, grass, and electric-type moves. Compared to other pseudo-legendary Pokemon, Goodra is more on the defensive side and is great at tanking hits. This may help it become useful in Pokemon GO‘s PVP meta after its release in-game.
Goodra is the final evolution of the Goomy line after Goomy evolves into Sliggoo. With Pokemon GO having a weather mechanic based on players’ local weather conditions, Sliggoo may share its evolution method from the mainline Pokemon games where it requires it to be raining outside in order to evolve into Goodra.
Hoopa is one of the mythical Pokemon available in Pokemon’s sixth generation. While it is initially unassuming, it has a much more powerful alternate form known as its unbound form. Like with Giratina, this alternate form serves as being more helpful in battle and could become one of the more popular Pokemon to appear in PVP battling.
In its unbound form, Hoopa is a dual psychic and dark-type Pokemon. This means that it is only weak to bug and fairy-type moves while also only resisting psychic-type moves. It may be possible that Hoopa’s normal form may be available through research tasks like many other smaller mythical Pokemon. However, Unbound Hoopa seems like a perfect contender as a raid boss that players can team up to take down. Its power will also definitely become well liked by those competing in the GO Battle League.
Xerneas is the box art legendary for Pokemon X and is one of the Kalos Pokemon that has yet to be introduced to Pokemon GO. As a pure fairy-type, Xerneas is weak to poison and steel-type moves, but also resists dragon, fighting, bug, and dark-type moves. Box art legendaries usually have the power to back their imagery with Xerneas being no exception. Considering the lack of powerful fairy-types making headway in the PVP meta in Pokemon GO, it’s very possible that Xerneas may become the change that fairy-type fans want.
Fitting alongside its counter-part, Yveltal is the box art legendary for Pokemon Y. This legendary Pokemon boasts around the same power as Xerneas, but with a much different typing. It is a dual dark and flying-type Pokemon, making it weak to rock, electric, ice, and fairy-type moves. It however resists ground, psychic, ghost, grass, and dark-type moves.
Like with Xerneas, it will likely be relegated to being a future raid boss that players will encounter down the line in Pokemon GO. When this will happen is unknown, but it will result in another powerful legendary Pokemon being in players’ arsenals that can be used freely in the majority of GO Battle League battles.
Florges is a pure fairy-type Pokemon introduced in generation six just like Xerneas. Unlike Xerneas however, Florges isn’t a legendary Pokemon, rather the final evolution of the Flabebe line. As a pure fairy-type, Florges is weak to poison and steel-type moves, but also resists dragon, fighting, bug, and dark-type moves.
In the mainline games, Florges is a powerful special attacker that is capable of learning a variety of grass and fairy-type moves. It also has five different forms outside of shiny forms with its flower colors being based on the color of the flower held by it when it was a Flabebe and a Floette. While players likely won’t be able to normally find Florges out in the wild after its release, there will be some sightings of it in the PVP scene once players are able to find its pre-evolutions. Being a three stage evolution however will probably require players to collect as many Flabebe candies as they can.
The final and often forgotten member of Kalos’s Aura Trio is Zygarde. This legendary Pokemon changes its form based on how many cores are in its trainer’s possession. However, its complete form is a power house that shouldn’t be underestimated, making it a definite sight when it comes to Pokemon GO‘s future PVP battles within the GO Battle League. Zygarde is a dual dragon and ground-type Pokemon, no matter what form it is in. This means that it is weak to ice, dragon, and fairy-type moves. However, this also means that Zygarde resists electric, poison, rock, and fire-type moves.
It is unknown if Zygarde’s various forms will just appear as different raid bosses or if players will need to collect Zygarde Cells and Zygarde Cores in Pokemon GO‘s overworld. There is great potential for both, but the scale and renown of this Pokemon will probably mean that it will take a long time for it to eventually appear. If anything, this Pokemon may appear alongside its own event or one of Pokemon GO‘s GO Fest events somewhere down the line. Either way, Zygarde’s appearance will create quite the impact on Pokemon GO as a whole.
Pokemon GO is available now on Android and iOS devices.
