When the Xbox Series X launched in November, it did so alongside three separate controller options. Xbox Series X early adopters could get their hands on standard Carbon Black and Robot White controllers, bundled with the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, respectively, as well as the impressive Shock Blue controller, sold on its own. Now a fourth Xbox Series X controller color variant has been revealed by Microsoft, and it’s launching next month.
Pairing nicely with the Xbox Series X Shock Blue controller and the Valentine’s Day holiday is the new Xbox Series X Pulse Red controller. It’s exactly the same as the other Xbox Series X controllers, but with a striking red and white color scheme. It’s quite visually impressive, and those interested in adding it to their collection can do so starting February 9, where it will launch in most markets for $64.99. Those in China will get a head-start when it comes to the Xbox Series X Pulse Red controller, as it launches tomorrow in the region.
Anyone impressed by the Xbox Series X Pulse Red controller should note that it’s compatible with far more than just Microsoft’s next-generation consoles. In fact, all Xbox Series X controllers work on Xbox One. They’re also compatible with most PCs and Android mobile devices, which is especially helpful for those who are taking advantage of the Xbox Game Pass cloud streaming library on the go.
In future, it’s possible Microsoft will introduce a new controller that’s only compatible with the Xbox Series X and S consoles and not the Xbox One. Microsoft has been surveying fans to gauge interest in an DualSense-style Xbox Series X controller that would likely utilize the PS5 controller’s unique features. For the uninitiated, the PS5 DualSense controller has a built-in microphone, as well as innovative new features like adaptive triggers and haptic feedback that have proven popular with fans and critics alike.
Whether or not Microsoft moves forward with a DualSense-style Xbox Series X controller remains to be seen. In the meantime, fans can expect the company to continue releasing new Xbox Series X controller color variants. It’s also quite possible that the company will launch custom Xbox Series X consoles, and it stands to reason those custom consoles will come with their own specially-designed controllers as well.
Microsoft released a number of custom Xbox One consoles over the years, sometimes in stores and other times through giveaways and promotions. For now, Xbox fans only have the black Xbox Series X and white Xbox Series S consoles to choose from, though their controller options continue to grow.
