Among Us fans are very defensive when people badmouth their game. It appears that Twitch streamer Shroud landed in some hot water with other gamers over a recent statement he made regarding the popular deduction game. While the comment about Among Us seems to have been made in good fun, it nevertheless led to almost an entire server shouting at the ex-professional gamer.
The statement was made during a streaming session while the gamer was playing on the new Rust server. Another player asked Shroud if he played Among Us, to which the pro replied “No, I don’t play Among Us. I only play real games.” There was a moment of pause before all of the other players on the server began shouting over each other at Shroud. It only took a few seconds before the pro realized how big of a mistake he had just made.
Shroud quickly backpedaled on his statement, asking the players to calm down and telling them he made a mistake in saying that. The pro usually plays competitive shooters—such as CS:GO or Escape From Tarkov—while sometimes enjoying a survival game like the hugely popular Rust. It would make sense that the social deduction game wouldn’t be something the streamer would enjoy, but he didn’t anticipate the overwhelming response.
Among Us was one of the biggest games of the year for 2020. The basic premise is that players must work together to complete tasks while one of them secretly tries to murder the others. Despite the game having released before the year, the worldwide pandemic and lockdowns led to gamers all over looking for ways to stay active and social. This made Among Us the perfect choice for friends wanting a slightly competitive yet casual and fun game.
Shroud recently made Cyberpunk 2077 fans upset after expressing hope that the game would lose interest quickly. Much like his Among Us statement, this seems much more explosive on the surface than the streamer actually meant. In this instance, Shroud explained that he wouldn’t want to stream the game for a long time, so it would be better if his viewers didn’t mind that he wasn’t playing it.
Regardless of the game, the relaxed professional usually has some strong opinions about it. His latest focus has been on Rust, but he has taken some breaks for Escape From Tarkov and the new Back 4 Blood alpha. Hopefully, his upset Among Us fans will forgive Shroud for the statement and understand that he meant it just wasn’t something he would play. This just goes to show that, no matter how popular a streamer is, they still need to be careful when they talk about massively popular games.
Among Us is available for Mobile, PC, and Switch, with Xbox One and Xbox Series X versions coming in 2021.
