Here’s Why Resident Evil 4 is Trending on Twitter | Game Rant

In January of 2005, Capcom released Resident Evil 4. The game saw Leon Kennedy’s return after Resident Evil 2 and the transition of the franchise to a new era as it ditched tank controls and fixed camera angles in favor of a more modern over-the-shoulder, third-person perspective. Additionally, Resident Evil 4 also set the blueprint of succeeding Resident Evil games that focused more on action elements instead of pure survival horror.

Nearly two decades later, Resident Evil 4 is trending on Twitter, given that fans have been pouring out their support in celebration of the game’s 16th anniversary. Despite the drastic changes that Resident Evil 4 has brought to the series, many consider it one of the best entries in the entire franchise. Additionally, it was also in Resident Evil 4 that cemented Leon Kennedy’s popularity among fans, making him one of the characters that had the most appearances in Resident Evil games.

Apart from Resident Evil 4 celebrating its 16th year, it is worth noting that this year also marks the 25th anniversary of the Resident Evil franchise. This is the reason why 2021 is going to be huge for RE fans, given that Resident Evil 8, a reboot Resident Evil film, and Netflix’s Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness are all scheduled to release this year. At the moment, the upcoming game, the film, and the animated series are the only confirmed Resident Evil projects for 2021. Still, some believe that Capcom may take advantage of its 25th anniversary to reveal its next Resident Evil remake.

Unsurprisingly, Resident Evil 4 is the strongest contender for Capcom’s next Resident Evil game. Although the developer still hasn’t revealed any plans for a remake, it did ask fans after the release of Resident Evil 3 whether they want to see another reimagining of a Resident Evil game. Unfortunately, some were disappointed that the Resident Evil 4 remake is all but confirmed, given that this means that Capcom is skipping Resident Evil: Code Veronica, which took place in-between the events of RE3 and RE4.

As expected, Resident Evil 4’s resurgence on Twitter is not only filled with congratulatory greetings for its 16th year but also speculation on whether or not the game deserves a remake. On one side, some players believe that Resident Evil 4 is perfect the way it is, while others are interested to see how Capcom would retell the story of the classic game, especially since the developer has introduced new storylines in both the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is rumored to be in development.
