Netflix has released a video previewing its movie lineup for 2021. According to the video on Netflix‘s Film Club YouTube channel, there will be new Netflix movies coming out every single week. The video features various stars and clips of upcoming movies.
The video is introduced by stars Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot, and Dwayne Johnson. There’s a preview of their upcoming film Red Notice, an action-comedy thriller that features Dwayne Johnson as an INTERPOL agent, Ryan Reynolds as a con-man, and Gal Gadot as an art thief. Action films leading in the previews include The Harder They Fall, a Western introduced by stars Regina King and Lovecraft Country‘s Jonathan Majors, and Thunder Force, featuring comedy powerhouses Octavia Spencer and Melissa McCarthy.
Netflix promises a line up of films featuring some of the biggest names right now. Thor‘s Chris Hemsworth will be starring in sci-fi flick Escape from Spiderhead, while fellow Marvel star Dave Bautista headlines zombie film Army of the Dead. Sweet Girl, a revenge thriller about a husband avenging his wife’s death, features DC action star Jason Momoa. Big directors also feature on the roster, including Halle Berry and her MMA movie Bruised, and Tick, Tick…Boom!, a musical directed by the critically acclaimed Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The Netflix preview includes stars and previews for the conclusion of two of its most popular movie franchises. Joey King appears from The Kissing Booth 3, the end of the series of movies based on the novel of the same name. Another book-to-film series concluding in 2021 is the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before movies, with stars Noah Centineo and Lana Condor returning for the final installment. Netflix also provides the first look at highly anticipated political satire disaster film Don’t Look Up, with a clip of Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, just two of an all-star cast, preparing to step out of a massive aircraft hangar.
In a year where streaming grew massively due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Netflix remained the biggest streaming service in the world in 2020. On top of being less negatively impacted by the closure of movie theatres, their strategy of having full series and films lined up in advance means there were plenty of releases despite delays in filming production all over the world. Netflix didn’t get off completely unscathed, with series such as Glow, The Society, and I Am Not Okay With This being canceled earlier than planned due to the pandemic.
Netflix’s lineup of movies will be released throughout 2021.
