10 Story-Heavy Games To Play If You Loved The Original Uncharted

When one talks about some of the greatest gaming franchises of all time, then it’s only a matter of time before the Uncharted series is mentioned in this conversation. Naughty Dog used to mainly be the developers of the Crash Bandicoot series, but it’s their work on Uncharted that truly pushed them to the mainstream in the best way possible.

The story of Nathan Drake and his friends ends up being a wildly entertaining joyride from start to end, full to the brim with some of the greatest narrative moments and action set-pieces in gaming history. So, it’s only a given that people who finally go through all the four games in the series would obviously want to try out more games that elicit the same feelings as Uncharted.

10 Bloodborne

While Bloodborne might be a challenging combat experience — a major draw of most From Software games — there’s no denying the fact that this atmospheric game hides a ton of lore and story that that player must work for to reveal.

From the scholars of Byrgenwerth to the Healing Church — the sheer amount of depth present in Bloodborne‘s world is truly immense and worth exploring for all the right reasons.

9 Persona 5 Royal

While a JRPG might be the furthest thing from the combat present in the Uncharted series, people who want longer stories with lovable characters should definitely try out Persona 5 Royal.

The original game was already a blast to play, yet Persona 5 Royal manages to improve upon this formula even further with additions to both the gameplay and story of the game, making for an excellent experience to blast through from start to end.

8 Tomb Raider

There was a time when Uncharted was lampooned as being a rip-off of Tomb Raider, which is what made the reboot of the Tomb Raider series all the more ironic when people basically called it a game that was heavily inspired by Uncharted.

That’s not to say that Tomb Raider isn’t a bad series — if anything, it’s actually an excellent title that any fan of third-person adventure games should definitely try out. The story and set pieces are bound to please any fan of the Uncharted series.

7 Control

Remedy Entertainment is known for developing excellent third-person shooters with a powerful narrative propelling the story. Their latest game, Control, seems to have wowed critics and fans alike due to its immense quality.

From the massive destructive environments to the mind-bending story — Control is a complete package that any fan of excellent action-adventure games should definitely try out.

6 Alan Wake

However, there’s another game by Remedy Entertainment that definitely needs to be mentioned while talking about some of the greatest games made by the studio.

Alan Wake is a brilliant psychological thriller that is an absolute blast to play through. The unique nature of the game’s setting coupled with the offbeat combat makes for an unforgettable experience that should definitely not be missed out on.

5 Ghost Of Tsushima

The hype for Ghost of Tsushima was through the roof, which was only a given since the game marked the much-awaited return of Sucker Punch Productions — the company behind the once-renown Infamous series.

Upon release, Ghost of Tsushima was widely praised by critics across the board for its brilliant visual design, engaging combat, and a story that — while certainly somewhat muted — definitely kept the player engaged throughout the experience.

4 Days Gone

The idea of another zombie title might be exasperating for most fans, and Days Gone certainly didn’t do itself any favors by releasing in a buggy state either. However, post some patches by Bend Studio, it must be said that the game has become a rather enjoyable romp through a zombie-infested Oregon that is full to the brim with some rather enjoyable moments.

While the story may not be to everyone’s tastes, it’s the main character’s performance that truly sells everything. Deacon St. John is an anti-hero in every sense of the word, with his depth being quite immense — and rather impressive — indeed.

3 Horizon Zero Dawn

The PlayStation 4 has been home to some of the best original IPs in the previous generation, with Horizon Zero Dawn being a great example of the sheer variety of new and interesting titles on this platform.

The idea of roaming through a world filled with robotic dinosaurs feels like the most awesome thing ever, but it’s the deft manner in which these robotic monstrosities are integrated with the plot that is truly the icing on a delectable cake.

2 God Of War

Of course, it would be impossible to talk about excellent exclusives on the PlayStation 4 without mentioning a masterpiece that most people are already quite familiar with. God of War‘s reboot was widely anticipated before release, with the game managing to meet every single expectation that was set for the title, if not exceeding them altogether. The combat was crunchy and the visuals were truly beautiful, but it’s the story of this game that manages to be the biggest and most surprising highlight.

There’s no denying the fact that God of War is an excellent title, and any fan of games with excellent combat systems and engrossing stories should definitely check this reboot out.

1 The Last Of Us

The story of Joel and Ellie in The Last of Us is considered by many to be one of the greatest stories ever told in a game, with the dynamic between both these characters serving as the beating heart of the series by a country mile.

Of course, that’s not to say that the gameplay present in The Last of Us is not a notable aspect of the title — if anything, the shooting and stealth present in the title is definitely quite nerve-wracking and serves as one of the most memorable parts of the experience.
