Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 1 Reloaded Update Out Now

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players don’t need to wait for the start of a new season for new content anymore. Today, Activision and Treyarch have put up a very detailed blog post covering today’s mid-season update, as well as what can be expected in the coming weeks. While a lot of this information had been confirmed previously, the blog post does handily combine it all into one place.

Dubbed Season One Reloaded, the update so far brings a new weapon, the Wakizashi, a new multiplayer map called Sanitorium (which is set in a Soviet experimental health retreat and had been previously leaked), and the new Cranked mode for Zombies. This mode’s only available for a limited time and requires players to keep killing zombies to prevent a countdown timer from ticking down to their death.

And in a bid to try and attract new players, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be offering a free-access week specifically for the Zombies mode. So anyone who wants to try it out but doesn’t own the game can do so until January 21.

As for what’s coming in the future, a new playable operator, Zenya, will be added on January 21. More multiplayer modes are planned as well, such as a Snipers Only Moshpit mode and an Endurance mode, where ten squads of four players are dropped into a map and must collect uranium and arm bombs.

On February 4, another multiplayer map called Express will be added, making its return from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. That day will also bring the new Firebase Z Zombies map which was teased earlier this week and will continue the Dark Aether storyline. Speaking of Zombies, the Onslaught mode is getting two new maps, one of which is available today, but this only applies to PlayStation owners. The Onslaught mode is exclusive to the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game and isn’t expected to come to the other versions until at least this November.

Perhaps the most surprising addition, though, is League Play, something that has been heavily demanded by players, particularly competitive ones, for ages. Only yesterday, a Treyarch representative implied that a mode like this was still a long ways off, but it looks as if it will be coming pretty soon, at the very least before the end of Season One. The full details of the mid-season update can be read on the official website.

While the game seems to routinely face criticism and complaints from fans regarding glitches and bugs, Cold War is clearly an incredibly popular and successful title regardless. Recently, it was confirmed that it was the most downloaded PS5 game in 2020.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
