Star Wars: Squadrons and Two Other Games Free for Xbox Live Gold Subscribers for Limited Time

Releasing earlier this month, Xbox is already giving away four games through its Games with Gold service, allowing players to claim Little Nightmares, Dead Rising, The King of Fighters XIII, and Breakdown. Yet, it seems Microsoft wasn’t done offering some games for subscribers to play at no additional cost, with the company now announcing it’ll be offering players the option to jump into three games for free over this coming weekend.

The new promotion comes courtesy of the company’s regular Free Play Days events, which allow Gold Subscribers and Game Pass Ultimate owners to gain access to a range of titles for a limited time. From today until Sunday, owners of either subscription will be able to access EA’s recent Star Wars: Squadrons, as well as both Dragon Ball FighterZ and Yooka-Laylee.

The biggest of the trio is Star Wars: Squadronswith EA Motive’s space dogfighting game offering an immersive, high octane, and visually striking addition to the Star Wars mythos. Releasing in late 2020, the title allows players to pilot a series of iconic ships from the popular franchise, including X-Wings, TIE Fighters, and A-Wings. Alongside players duking it out in multiplayer battles, they’re also able to take part in an original campaign, with the story switching between player-created Rebel and Imperial pilots as they embark upon action-packed missions. The game was one of last year’s bigger releases and is sure to put a smile on any Star Wars fan’s face.

Dragon Ball FighterZon the other hand, is a fighting game based on the iconic anime behemoth, Dragon Ball Z. Allowing players to select from a range of the show’s best heroes and villains, the game has been hailed as a fighter with a strong reverence for its source material, including a striking cel-shaded art style and an authentically Dragon Ball combat system. It originally launched in 2018, but still has a strong fanbase to this day, meaning players hopping in now will still be able to find a strong community to battle against online.

Finally, Yooka-Laylee originally launched in 2017, with the game looking to offer a new platformer in the same vein as classics like Banjo-Kazooie. Unfortunately, it was largely seen as a disappointment upon release, with many players criticizing the game’s poor controls, camera, and bland levels. For those who never got to play the platformer, however, it’s sure to offer a bit of light entertainment this weekend, especially considering many critics admitted the game did excel in terms of humor and charm. Regardless, all three Xbox games will be available for Gold and Game Pass Ultimate players from now until January 17 at 12 PM PT.
