This is Why Princess Daisy is Trending | Game Rant

After leaving fans in the dark about Super Mario 3D World + Bowser‘s Fury for quite some time, Nintendo decided to divulge a wealth of information on the game and its brand new Bowser’s Fury mode this week. While a trailer yesterday finally revealed new information about Bowser’s Fury, a brand new overview trailer released today detailed even more information, like brand new online and co-op modes.

Fans have been ecstatic to finally learn more about Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, especially since the game is now less than one month away from its release, on February 12. Naturally, these new trailers have led fans to speculate on a variety of new aspects of the enhanced game, from the inclusion of Bowser Jr. to the many new cat-themed enemies, but one new feature has fans theorizing about the addition of a new character to the game.

Throughout both Super Mario trailers, fans noticed four never-before-seen cats, colored green, pink, blue, and black, seemingly representing the game’s four other playable characters, Luigi, Peach, Toad, and Rosalina. However, fans have also noticed a seemingly out of place calico cat, leading many to think that it could represent the addition of Princess Daisy as a playable character, sparking loads of speculation over on Twitter.

The main theory surrounding these new cat characters seems to be that in Bowser’s Fury, the other playable characters in the game have been turned into cats, possibly by Bowser himself, driving Mario to both stop Bowser’s rampage and save his friends in the process. Fans drew the conclusion that since each of the solidly-colored cats seems to represent the colors of the cat suits worn by the 4 other playable characters, the calico cat must represent a new playable character in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury: Princess Daisy. One Twitter user noted that if Daisy were included in the game, it would be her first ever playable role in a mainline Super Mario game.

While the main connection seems to be that the orange color on the calico cat corresponds with Daisy’s orange dress, other fans have delved deeper, noting that in Super Mario Land on the Game Boy, Princess Daisy ruled over Sarasaland, and that “sarasa” was the Japanese term for the calico textile used back during Japan’s Edo Period (1603 to 1868). And although the history lesson makes the theory seem like even more of a stretch, plenty of fans are being cautious not to get their hopes up.

Either way, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury has already proven to be more than capable of surprising fans, especially with the addition of a player 2-controlled Bowser Jr. If Princess Daisy is indeed added to the game, it will be interesting to see if she gets any new abilities like the other playable characters originally in Super Mario 3D World.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is set to launch for the Nintendo Switch on February 12th.
