Why the New Mass Effect: Legendary Edition Release Date Leak Could Be the Real Deal

It was only a few months ago on N7 Day that Mass Effect fans got the news they’d been waiting for—Mass Effect is getting a fully remastered game, complete with past DLC and enhancements for a better gameplay experience. Mass Effect: Legendary Edition was announced without an official release date, instead giving fans a vague approximation of when it would come out in 2021.

On N7 Day, fans of the sci-fi series were told the game would be available in Spring 2021. Now, with new (potentially real) leaks surfacing, fans may have a concrete date for when Mass Effect: Legendary Edition will be available for tangible, play-that-day purchase. Though not officially announced by BioWare or EA, fans could potentially get their hands on the remastered version of the Mass Effect trilogy on March 12, 2021. Despite no official statement, chances may be good that this date is the real deal.

At the risk of sounding facetious, the month of March falls within the spring season, creating reasonable evidence that March 12, 2021 could be the day Mass Effect: Legendary Edition releases. When BioWare announced the remastered version of all three Mass Effect games, it didn’t announce an official release date or pre-order date, just the season and year. Though nothing has been confirmed from the developer, it wouldn’t be outrageous to see that March 12, 2021 pretty much aligns with the estimated time of Spring 2021.

Again, nothing has been officially announced by BioWare or EA, but other unnamed sources have confirmed that March 12, 2021 is on-the-nose as far as the release of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition goes. A few different online stores had listed the game as available for pre-order, citing this date in March as when it will be available permanently. Though the listings on Shopitree and GSShop have both been taken down, they did originally advertise the release date as “12 March 2021.”

Though many signs are pointing to March 12, 2021 being the officially unofficial release date of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, there are still a few things fans and players don’t know yet. Obviously, one of these things is the official date of release and when the game will be available for pre-order. As mentioned previously, the shops that originally had the game listed have since removed their listings, so though March 12, 2021 is a good guess, it’s definitely not a concrete conclusion.

Fans also have no clue how much Mass Effect: Legendary Edition will actually cost. The now removed listings showed a price point of “$76.90,” but given that the listing was in foreign currency, there is some conversion to be done. Odds are good that the game will retail for about $60 (in U.S. currency), which isn’t exactly bad for three remastered games and all of its DLC and promotional packs. However, there is something to be said about how both the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro remastered editions launched at $40 price points, both including three games each.

Beyond price and official dates, potential players also have no clue what gameplay will look like yet. Getting a remastered edition of any game is exciting, especially seeing the technological advancements from previous games to match the technology of this generation. While there are high hopes for Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, fans really don’t have much information about it or even an in-depth look at the updated graphics. Hopefully the remastered game delivers on the expectations it’s set for players—even if it doesn’t officially release on March 12, 2021.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition will be available Spring 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
