Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Vendetta missions, other online features go offline

WB Games has pulled online services for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.

According to an update on the game’s support site, changes with the network no longer provide access to certain features for the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. This includes all platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam.

Online bits of the game no longer available include the Nemesis Forge feature and online leaderboards. Also, because certain actions tied to these online bits provided achievements or trophies, players will have them automatically bestowed.

Since the WBPlay platform is no longer available, the Epic Runes “Orc Hunter” and “Gravewalker” upgrades are now automatically awarded to all players.

One of the coolest things about the game, which will also no longer be available, is Vendetta missions. If you are unfamiliar with the game, another player was able to see where you died and by who’s hands. This allowed them to go into the game world and get revenge for your death. It was pretty cool, and let’s just say a couple of friends of mine happened to avenge my death on more than one occasion. You kinda die quite a bit in the early parts of the game, or at least I did.

These online services were pulled on January 12.

Developed by Monolith and released in 2014, the game was followed by a sequel, Middle-earth: Shadow of War. Here the Nemesis system was expanded and allows you to amass and control an army of Orcs and together raid Orc forts to reclaim and control them. Online services for Shadow of War remain intact.
