Sword of the Necromancer is only a couple of weeks away. To celebrate, developer Grimorio of Games just released the third and final dev diary to give fans a taste of what they can expect when the dungeon crawler launches.
Sword of the Necromancer is an RPG with rogue-like elements. Unlike a typical dungeon crawler, however, the game has heavy story elements, and that is what Grimorio of Games wanted to show off with the most recent dev diary. Inspired in part by Shadow of the Colossus, an iconic adventure game, the story of Sword of the Necromancer is about saving someone while on a lonely journey.
Players will take control of Tama a bodyguard, who is charged with protecting the priestess Koko while she makes a pilgrimage. However, Koko tragically dies during this voyage. Tama has the opportunity to bring Koko back to life by bringing her corpse to the Necromancer’s Crypt; as the legends say that this area has the ability to bring back the dead.
Where the comparisons to Shadow of the Colossus end, however, is in some of the narrative choices between the characters. While there is an ambiguous nature to some of Shadow of the Colossus, the story of Sword of the Necromancer will be told through flashbacks. The personalities, character development, and more will be evident through these moments that will play out. In addition, emotion, music, and art will be evident here as well. In the last dev diary for Sword of the Necromancer, the focus was on art and music. Not only is this focus clear in gameplay, but also in the flashbacks as well.
Sword of the Necromancer is headed to Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on January 28, 2021.
