Animal Crossing: New Horizons introduced a larger town area to the series, as well as the ability to freely decorate outside your home. With all this extra space to fill, thousands of new items have been introduced to ensure players can meticulously adorn each and every inch of their islands. From giant robot statues to the tiniest tea set, there’s truly something for every kind of Animal Crossing fan.
Many of these items fit within themed furniture series. The colors and aesthetics vary greatly between each set, and while any item can be useful in the right hands, some furniture series are simply better than others. The pieces that stand out from the crowd are not only aesthetically pleasing but versatile enough to fit the decorating needs of any player.
Updated January 16th, 2021 by Meg Pelliccio: Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been out for almost a whole year, and in that time Nintendo has graced fans with plenty of updates that have added new and exciting content, including new furniture sets. Whether the updates were seasonal-only or permanent additions, once players have the furniture, it’s there to stay and appreciate all year round.
Whether players are looking to set a certain theme for a room in their home, style an outside area for their island, or gift to one of their favorite animal villagers, there is something for everyone. Check out these top furniture series in the game.
15 Frozen Series
The Frozen set of furniture is perfect for any player looking to create an ice palace feel to their home, or give some wintery effects to their island. This series of furniture is all crafted by the player, who are able to learn the recipes by creating snowmen.
During winter, when the island is covered in snow, there are snowballs lying around that players can kick/roll to create bigger balls and eventually create their own Snowboy. If players make the snowmen perfectly, and he will tell them if they did or how close they were to doing so, the snowman will reward the player with a Frozen DIY recipe that they don’t yet know.
14 Golden Series
The Golden series is one of the rarest in the game to own as it requires many of the rare and coveted golden nugget crafting items to create. It is likely for this reason that this furniture series does not have as many pieces of furniture that fall under its category, as it would just be far too expensive to make.
However, notable mentions are the Golden Toilet, and for anyone looking for a more impressive golden throne, there is the Golden Seat, which is far more magnificent. These DIY recipes can be obtained in various ways, such as from message bottles, balloons, or from animal neighbors.
13 Mush Series
During the autumn season, players will find their islands have become home to a host of mushrooms growing all over their land. This begins on the first day of the last month of autumn, which is November for the Northern Hemisphere, or May for those in the Southern Hemisphere.
Players can collect Skinny, Flat, Round, Elegant, and Rare mushroom crafting items to create a plethora of mushroom-themed furniture, including a table, stools, lamps, parasol, partition, and log. This furniture set is perfect for using both indoors and outdoors. Isabelle will give one of the DIY recipes as part of her morning announcement, and the rest can be found in balloons.
12 Cherry Blossom Series
The Cherry Blossom series is another seasonal furniture set that can be crafted by players. During cherry blossom season, players can catch cherry blossom petals with their bug nets as they float through the air and create some absolutely stunning furniture pieces.
Cherry blossom season is April 1st — April 10th for the Northern Hemisphere or October 1st — October 10th for the Southern Hemisphere. Fan-favorite Isabelle gives one of the DIY recipe cards, and the rest can be obtained from balloons.
11 Bamboo Series
The Bamboo series is another craftable furniture set in New Horizons, and while the majority of these can be crafted all-year-round, some recipes require the Young Spring Bamboo crafting item that only grows from February 25th — May 31st for the Northern Hemisphere, or from August 25th — November 30th in the Southern Hemisphere.
Additionally, some of the recipes are only obtained during Spring via balloons, while the other recipes can be found in message bottles or given by villagers. For those needing bamboo shoots to grow bamboo, they can be obtained by digging up bamboo plants on mystery islands or are given by Daisy Mae in the mail when players spend a lot on turnips.
10 Rattan Series
The Rattan furniture set is simple and attractive, and that’s all it really needs to be. The woven texture makes this series closely resemble the Cabana furniture, which first appeared in the original Animal Crossing. What sets the Rattan furniture apart from the Cabana style is the color range available, with beachy combinations like brown/white and white/teal that would look perfect beside a pool area.
The Rattan Series’ minimalist style means items like the towel basket and vanity make great accents for a bathroom, while the armchair and low table could furnish a laidback cafe area. The possibilities are endless, so players should snap these pieces up from the Nooklings as soon as they can.
9 Diner Series
Where the Rattan Series is subtle and versatile, the Diner Series is bright and tailored for specific uses. This set doesn’t include a bed or lamp, so it won’t be all that useful to players looking for a diner themed bedroom. It does, however, include three different types of seats and tables that will enhance the charm of any kitchen, eating area, or even retro games room.
There are a whopping six color variants in the Diner Series, including subtle black and cream shades, deep blue and cream for a nautical twist, and bright yellow, pink and aqua options for that neon diner look.
8 Log Series
Players will receive DIY recipes for a number of log items quite early into their game, and for good reason. With 12 individual pieces and four color variants available, there’s not much you can’t do with the Log Series. Its natural aesthetic makes it ideal for both rustic interiors and forest decor.
The three simplest items in this series are likely its most useful – the log stakes, stool, and bench. The bench can become a place to sit inside a hidden garden nook, the stakes fill gaps in cottagecore-themed forest trails, while the stools are great for displaying smaller accessories.
7 Imperial Series
This East-Asian themed set draws heavy inspiration from the Exotic Series of previous Animal Crossing games. Featuring intricate wooden carvings and four color variants, the Imperial Series can be paired with dark timber walls and bamboo decorations for an effortless, mature aesthetic.
The most striking piece in this collection is the imperial dining table, a two-tiered monstrosity that includes dozens of dishes and what looks like a Lazy Susan. This is actually the most expensive table available in New Horizons and it will cost dedicated collectors 73,000 Bells.
6 Flower Series
New Horizons introduced three new species of flowers and gave players the ability to harvest flowers as a resource without having to pick them from the ground. There’s never been a better time to revamp New Leaf‘s iconic flower set, which previously included a rose sofa and a hibiscus clock.
This updated series features a furniture piece for each flower type, such as the hyacinth lamp and cosmos shower. The lily record player and pansy table are the same in both New Leaf and New Horizons, and a number of these flower items can be seen in the homes of villagers such as Blaire the squirrel.
5 Cute Series
In yet another throwback to earlier games, the Cute Series seems like a toned-down version of the vibrantly pink Lovely Series. Both sets are themed around hearts and vibrant colors, with the Cute Series varying from pastel blue to firetruck red, and the ever-pink Lovely furniture offering versions with white or black detailing.
The love-heart motif makes this set ideal for enhancing the yards of any particularly sweet villagers. A red cute music player would fit right in outside the home of Cheri or Poppy, while a puzzle on a cute tea table will suit snooty and normal villagers alike.
4 Shell Series
The iridescent shades of the Shell Series might remind some players of the incredibly popular Mermaid Series from New Leaf. As with the Cute Series, this version seems much more aligned with the more minimalistic style to New Horizons, but that’s not to say there aren’t a few wonderfully avant-garde pieces.
Most items in this set, from the shell speakers and lamps to the archway and fountain, would transform any island beach into an ethereal ocean wonderland. The shell bed, on the other hand, may look a bit out of place. This giant clamshell might be the least subtle piece in the collection, but it will certainly steal the show as a bedroom centerpiece, making it a must-have for New Horizons fans.
3 Fruit Series
Similar to the Flower Series, this set takes classic items from older Animal Crossing games and updates them to suit the new crafting mechanics. Gone are the grapefruit table and bulky watermelon chair, instead players can find DIY recipes for adorable cherry speakers and peach chairs.
Classic pieces like the apple TV and pear wardrobe survived the series revamp, likely given how perfect their shape is for those kinds of furniture. Additionally, the Fruit Series goes even further than the Flower Series by including a rug, wallpaper, hat, dress, and umbrella to match each kind of fruit.
2 Zodiac Series
Few New Horizons players would deny that the Zodiac Series is the most visually stunning furniture in the game. With their smooth, ivory features and golden accents, this rather jumbled assortment of items ranks among the most grandiose-looking pieces in the entire Animal Crossing franchise.
The Zodiac Series comprises everything from a bathtub and a lamp, to an urn and a rocking chair. This rather random assortment seems aimed at adding highlights to different rooms and areas, rather than furnishing a single space. Perhaps the only drawback of these gorgeous items is how difficult they are to obtain and craft.
1 Ironwood Series
Players who frequent Nookazon and Animal Crossing subreddits will know how remarkably popular this furniture set is. Everyone is constantly on the lookout for the Ironwood DIY recipes, or offering Bells and Nook Mile Tickets so that other players will make certain pieces for them.
The Ironwood Series is almost like a more refined cousin to the Log Series. Items can be left bare to suit a minimalist kitchen, or decorated with mugs and radios for a homely, welcoming atmosphere. The natural wood base and metal details work together to achieve this versatility, making this series the epitome of what New Horizons has to offer.
