Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Details New Zombies Map Firebase Z

Treyarch’s Zombies mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has only had one map to play on since the game’s launch, but that will change on February 4. With Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players set to face off with the undead in Vietnam soon, a few more details have been provided on what the map will have to offer.

In a special blog post celebrating 115 Day, an annual Call of Duty event where Treyarch celebrates all things Zombies, details on Outpost 25 were provided. The map’s stylish logo was revealed, boasting a similar style to the text for Gorod Krovi and establishing a Russian influence on the map. Meant to represent the villainous Omega group, the logo indicates the faction’s involvement in the map, with the rest of the post providing details as to what the devious scientists are up to.

According to a new Zombies teaser image in the blog post, the Omega group has created a limitless energy source with Aetherium Crystals. Likely similar to 115 from the original Aether story, this new energy source could serve as a story explanation for all the gadgets and gizmos the group develops. Also serving as a justification for the potential return of key story elements like teleportation and time travel, this energy source could serve as a thrilling development for the overall narrative.

It seems like the next Zombies easter egg quest will place players face-to-face with the iconic character Samantha Maxis. The backstory for the map sees Samantha captured by Omega Group, with Weaver sending the Requiem team to rescue the beloved character. While stopping Requiem’s new projects will likely be one of the goals assigned to players, rescuing Sam seems like a higher priority for Weaver and the map’s overall plot.

While it remains to be seen if Samantha Maxis will become a playable operator at some point in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s seasons of content, it will be exciting to see Sam in-game nonetheless. With Sam previously only being seen during the intro cutscene for Die Maschine, her role in the map being larger is certainly intriguing. With Firebase Z set to progress the story in a major way while also bringing Zombies fans a unique jungle locale, things are shaping up for the next entry in the Dark Aether storyline.

While Firebase Z backstory is the post’s focus, it also mentions “a badass new wonder weapon”, as well as new characters and gameplay mechanics. With “new enemies” also confirmed for Firebase Z, fans of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s survival mode may be seeing another Zombies mini boss appear soon.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
