Capcom announced that it will be hosting a special Resident Evil showcase on January 21, primarily to discuss the upcoming Resident Evil 8 game. But while Resident Evil 8 will likely be the main focus of the presentation, Capcom is expected to talk about the Resident Evil franchise in a broader sense as well. It remains to be seen exactly what will be announced, but fans may get an idea of what to expect thanks to a recent tweet by a proven insider.
Industry insider AestheticGamer, also known as Dusk Golem, said some time ago that they were done leaking information online. Considering this, fans shouldn’t take their recent tweets about the Resident Evil showcase as “leaks.” Instead these are just predictions by someone who is known to be far more knowledgeable about the subject than the average fan. Even so, the predictions sound plausible enough, and it will be interesting to see if they line up with the announcements made at the real showcase next week.
AestheticGamer separates their Resident Evil showcase predictions into betting tiers, with the “HAPPENING” tier likely the most interesting to fans. They believe that the showcase will include a Resident Evil 8 trailer and gameplay demonstration, along with a release date announcement and pre-orders going live. They also believe that Capcom will talk about Resident Evil‘s 25th anniversary during the showcase, which could involve announcements not related to Resident Evil 8.
This includes the announcement of the secret Resident Evil multiplayer game that’s in development. The existence of the Resident Evil multiplayer game, apparently going by the codename Dominion, was outed thanks to a testing announcement by the Resident Evil Ambassador program. Since Capcom is already testing the game, it wouldn’t be all that surprising for the company to make the announcement during the showcase.
And finally, the last announcement that AestheticGamer believes is “happening” at the Resident Evil showcase is a PlayStation 5/Xbox Series X upgrade for Resident Evil 7. Since Resident Evil 7‘s story leads directly into the events of Resident Evil 8, this upgrade would make sense. It would give fans who missed out on the original RE7 release a chance to play the game with next-generation enhancements and prepare themselves for Resident Evil 8‘s launch later this year.
AestheticGamer also provides predictions that they believe are far less likely to happen during the showcase. This includes a PlayStation timed-exclusive Resident Evil 8 demo, which has been rumored before, as well as new information on the Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness Netflix project. Fans will just have to tune in to the Resident Evil showcase on January 21 at 2pm PST to find out more.
