For years, the premiere Major League Baseball game series has been MLB The Show, though it has been exclusive to PlayStation consoles since 2006. A new MLB The Show game comes out every year like clockwork, oftentimes earning rave reviews from critics in the process, and so it’s understandable that those on other platforms may feel as though they’re missing out. But it looks like they won’t have to miss out on one of the highest-rated baseball video game franchises much longer.
As pointed out by PureXbox, it was confirmed in 2019 that MLB The Show is coming to other platforms. Xbox responded to the news at the time with a tweet saying “No more away games.” MLB The Show 20 was in-development when the announcement was made and so it was too late to bring that entry to other consoles, but it seems as though the plan is to bring MLB The Show 21 to more than just PlayStation.
It’s unclear exactly which platforms MLB The Show 21 is releasing for, but luckily, fans don’t have to wait much longer. An MLB The Show announcement is set to take place at some point in February, which will likely confirm its platforms and maybe even a release date. MLB The Show games typically release in March, so the February announcement could be a full-blown showcase for the new game.
Baseball fans on Xbox will likely be excited to get MLB The Show 21 on their console of choice, but there are other reasons to be excited as well. With both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles now available, it seems likely that an MLB The Show 21 next-gen version could be in the works as well, though that remains to be seen.
MLB The Show 21 is in development.
