While many gamers are known to have started at a young age, there is a limit to how young someone should be before they should have access to a console. This doesn’t always have to do with game content, but many know young children to touch things they shouldn’t. One of these things of course is the console power button while their parent is playing a game.
One gamer with this problem was Reddit user Loplo_Fox on r/xboxone. In their case, their child would press their Xbox One’s power button while it was on, likely due to the noise it made upon being pressed. While Loplo_Fox may or may not have been able to move the console out of their young child’s reach, they instead found another solution.
In order to block their child’s finger from pressing the power button, Loplo_Fox put a mesh container over the console. This kept the console in view and no longer allowed their child to touch the console itself. The Reddit user proceeded to post the picture of their innovation on r/xboxone for other Xbox redditors to see.
Of course, this solution will be undone as soon as Loplo_Fox’s child figures out how to lift up the container. Until then however, the console seems to be safe from any unexpected powering downs.
Other Reddit users on r/xboxone responded to the post with their own stories of children turning off consoles and how they stopped them. Many of them have found that taping over the button, putting the console out of reach, or baby gating the area around the console to be effective methods.
Considering that children can be accidentally destructive, it is always a good idea to keep expensive consoles out of the reach of young children. This is for both the safety of the child and the safety of the console in case the child breaks it. If a console is within a small child’s reach, it is also very important to just keep an eye on the child and remove them from the area if needed.
Overall, this solution is a humorous one that may take Loplo_Fox’s some time to figure out. The allure of colorful buttons is a powerful one, especially colorful buttons that light up and make a sound when pressed. Hopefully this Reddit user’s child loses interest in pressing this potentially game ruining button some point in the near future. Until then, the mesh container will just have to do.
