With roots as an early smart phone gaming phenomenon, PopCap Games’ endearingly unique tower defense franchise Plants vs. Zombies has been capturing the hearts and minds of gamers for well over a decade now. If a recent discovery is to be believed, it would appear that the game is once again set to rise from its grave and on to a brand new platform.
Plants vs. Zombies‘ most recent entry, Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville, released well over a year ago, but may yet be granted new life if a recent rumor is to be trusted. Wholly unique in the franchise and breaking from its established tradition, the third-person multiplayer shooter may soon be widely available on a console that could be its perfect match.
Established long term video game rental service Gamefly published a listing for the game in anticipation for a release at some point in the near future, for the Nintendo Switch. Gamefly has previously posted listings of games before official conformations, lending further credence to this posting. It’s also worth noting that the game’s publisher EA announced in July 2020 that it would be bringing no less than seven titles to Nintendo’s record breaking console.
With a publisher as massive and iconic as EA, it seems only natural that this game would continue to grow into more current and popular pastures. Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville received positive to mixed reviews upon its original launch, currently standing at a 77 on Metacritic.
With Nintendo Switch sales still breaking records world wide, a release on this console would open up an entirely new audience to not only this game, but the Plants vs. Zombies franchise as a whole. It will be interesting to see if the game can once more rise from the dead and bring in players both old and brand new to the series.
Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
