In a surprise announcement, the highly anticipated release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, popularly referred to as The Snyder Cut, will not be a miniseries but instead a four-hour-long movie. This sudden news runs contrary to the original announcement last year that the movie would instead be a miniseries, consisting of four parts, each part lasting one hour.
The news comes from Comingsoon.net, which reported the findings through a reply from Snyder to a fan on the social media site, Vero. Taking a moment to break from production, Zack Snyder hosted a small Q&A session with fans eager for the new film’s release. Responding to one of the commenter’s questions, Zack confirms that The Snyder Cut will be one mammoth feature film, lasting roughly 240 minutes. The reason for this decision was not given. Additionally, it appears that Snyder confirmed there will not be a post-credits film to Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League was revealed last May, with the online fan-event DC Fandome confirming that it would be a miniseries, streaming exclusively for HBO Max. This new announcement contradicts that statement, and based upon the response, the four-hour long film will be the only way that Zack Snyder’s Justice League will be presented, with no alternate formats.
This announcement seems unusual, but it does confirm the earlier statement that this new cut will have over 150 minutes of unseen footage for the new cut. A four-hour feature-length film of Zack Snyder’s Justice League also makes March 2021 incredibly competitive for the streaming world. Kong vs Godzilla and Mortal Kombat are set to debut in that month, meaning HBO Max will usher in the Spring streaming season with real firepower.
Perhaps this is a means for Zack Snyder’s Justice League to compliment the launches of other films on HBO Max and encourage more to subscribe. Additionally, Disney + is set to debut Falcon and The Winter Soldier on their service, keeping those longing for more Marvel content more than satisfied. Some users have complained that the four-hour length will be too long, but given the fact that viewers are currently encouraged to stay home, there isn’t anything stopping them from pausing the film and taking a break.
