Apex Legends Season 8: All of Fuse’s Datamined Abilities

Season 7 is winding to a close in Apex Legends, and players are beginning to look forward to the start of Season 8. Number 7 was a big season for Respawn’s battle royale, introducing a new map alongside its standard fare. While it doesn’t look like Season 8 will bring another new map to Apex Legends, players do already know the identity of the new character: Fuse.

Fuse is an Offensive Legend and explosives enthusiast from the fringe world of Salvo in the Titanfall universe. While the only official information on Fuse has come from a teaser trailer that focused on his story, dataminers have managed to dig up a few nuggets about the new Legend.

The first hints about Fuse’s abilities in Apex Legends have recently arrived in the Battle Royale arena. Since January 16th, any game which reaches Rings 4 and 5 has seen a special effect where bombs rain from the sky and half-bury themselves in the map.

These bombs are harmless on their own but, if shot, explode for major damage. The bombs also leave a ring of fire, which deals damage-over-time to any of the characters of Apex Legends who get caught in it. It was quickly established in the community that these bombs were the result of Fuse’s rumored ultimate, Motherlode.

This isn’t the first time that Respawn has used in-game teasers as a way of hyping players for new characters. At the beginning of Season 7, gravity lifts were added to the maps in preparation for the arrival of Horizon. Similarly, in the days before Octane was released, jump pads appeared across the arenas of Apex Legends, so this addition makes sense.

Although none of Fuse’s abilities have been officially confirmed just yet, two of them have been partially revealed by dataminers. The first is his Ultimate, the one that is closely related to the bombs dropping all over Apex Legends. Fuse’s Ultimate ability, which is supposedly called The Motherlode, launches a missile from Fuse’s back that will deal heavy damage and create an incendiary effect. It’s unclear whether the missile will need to be shot, like those falling in-game right now or whether it will explode on contact.

Like the Motherlode, the Tactical ability of Apex: Legend’s newest character is also explosive. Fuse’s Tactical is supposedly named Airburst Grenade and will be fired from his mechanical arm. Based on the information gathered by dataminers, the grenade will explode in mid-air to deal moderate AoE damage. It’s likely that the Airburst Grenade will feature some other special effect, but players will have wait for Respawn’s official in-game reveal of Fuse‘s abilities to find out what. There has been no word on his passive, but it is likely connected to grenades or explosions of some sort.

As revealed in Apex Legends latest teaser trailer, Fuse grew up on the fringe world of Salvo. His story begins with him finding a golden grenade on the skeletal body of a former Salvo freedom fighter, a group greatly admired by Fuse’s childhood friend Mags.

The trailer’s montage shows Fuse and Mags growing up together, finding work as criminals and mercenaries. All the time, the two swap the grenade back and forth, passing it on whenever one gets the best of the other. Eventually, Fuse decides to join Bonecage, Salvo’s version of the Thunderdome, and manages to take the championship.

Mags, now a powerful figure in Salvo’s seedy underbelly, throws the grenade to him as he celebrates in the ring. The montage ends with Fuse returning the grenade, for the final time, as he leaves to join the Apex Games. This revelation follows the news that Salvo has joined the Syndicate, the organizer of the games and hated enemy of Mags. Fuse’s childhood friend takes his decision badly, and throws him the grenade back, this time with the pin pulled. The resulting explosion costs Fuse his arm, and he walks away with his bridges burned and the Apex Games ahead of him.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with Nintendo Switch and Mobile versions also in development.
