Ever since pre-orders first became available, the simple act of purchasing a PS5 has been a challenge unto itself. With the console constantly going in and out of stock, the wrong item occasionally getting delivered in lieu of a PS5, and even reports of consoles being stolen by delivery drivers, getting a PS5 is next to impossible. Though, there was a brief moment where a certain retailer had the console back in stock.
A couple of months before the console even launched, scalpers began selling PS5 pre-orders on eBay for ridiculous prices. The fact that the console wasn’t even out yet and people were paying astronomic prices for a pre-order of the console, not exactly the console itself, goes to show just how much demand there was and still is for the PS5. However, there was a point in the middle of the night where the PS5 did go back in stock on Target.
There had been rumors that Target was expecting to get a PS5 restock soon and while these rumors did turn out to be true, the PS5 sold out within a matter of minutes. The PS5 purchase opportunity went live on the Target website between 3 AM and 7 AM, and as soon as people were able to purchase it, Target’s inventory almost immediately depleted. This left many prospective customers upset, to say the least.
While some customers were lucky enough to procure a PS5 order, many were not as fortunate. It is truly amazing how much demand there is for this console at the moment. In fact, the console hasn’t even launched in India yet and the pre-orders for the PS5 in India have already sold out.
On top of this, the similarly high demand for the Xbox Series X has yet to diminish either. It’s already been a little over two months since both consoles launched and yet, as evidenced by this temporary inventory restock at Target, the demand for both systems has shown absolutely no sign of dwindling.
In any case, it will be interesting to see how long it takes before the hype surrounding the PS5 starts to die down. Obviously, whenever a new console releases, there tend to be problems maintaining the demand for it. For example, when the Nintendo Switch came out, the demand was not as high comparatively, but similar issues did occur. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Nintendo Switch Pro were to be announced, it ended up receiving the same treatment as the PS5 or the Xbox Series X/S. Hopefully, in the coming months, it will be easier for people to get their hands on the console.
