The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Glitch Lets Players Duplicate Spirit Orbs

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild players have found a very useful new glitch, over three years after the game’s initial release. Players are always inspired to find new and creative ways to beat a game, or find hidden areas, or shave time off of a speed run. This has led to some great discoveries, including the most recent- the ability to duplicate Spirit Orbs and other useful items.

This new finding stems from the Memory Storage glitch, which is actually a requirement for Breath of the Wild players to activate before moving on to the duplication glitch. With Memory Storage, players were able to keep the Bow of Light and skip certain areas of the game. It’s a fairly difficult process that tricks the game’s data to carry across various save files.

After players have successfully activated the Memory Storage glitch they will need to attain the Travel Medallion and access to Eventide Island. They will also need to locate a shrine, where a Monk can give players a Spirit Orb. In its simplest form, the duplication process involves placing the Travel Medallion near Eventide Island, travel to a Shrine and obtain the Spirit Orb from the Monk, accessing the inventory to look at the Spirit Orb, looking at save files and then exiting the game.

Then it requires players to restart the game, load the save file and start, and immediately abort, the quest on Eventide. A more detailed, step-by-step explanation can be found in the video below, courtesy of the YouTube channel Gaming Reinvented.

This process can be done to duplicate any item a player receives through a cutscene, including Korok Seeds and various forms of armor. Traditionally speaking, there are 120 Spirit Orbs in the base game, with four added in “The Champions’ Ballad” expansion pack. Likewise, there are 900 Korok Seeds available to be collected without using the duplication glitch.

Link can pray to Goddess Statues and trade four Spirit Orbs to upgrade either his total Hearts or his Stamina. Link can have a total of 30 hearts, but without the duplication glitch, this limits the amount that a player can upgrade their stamina, given the constriction on Spirit Orbs. A player can collect up to 10 Stamina Vessels from the statues, giving three full stamina wheels.

Players can locate Hestu and trade Korok Seeds to him for upgrades in inventory space. The upgrades do get more expensive each time a new tier is unlocked. It wouldn’t be as important to apply the duplication process to Kurok Seeds, as only 441 out of the 900 are necessary to fully upgrade storage capacity.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available for Switch and Wii U.
