Every NIS America Game Coming Out In 2021 | Game Rant

NIS, or Nippon Ichi Software, is one of those small companies that keeps on trucking along despite their lack of anything that one would call mainstream. That’s okay because they know exactly how to budget out their titles, as weird as they might be. This dedication to the craft has gathered a small following which is enough to help keep this weird truck cruising along.

For 2021, they have seven games announced at the moment, across a plethora of platforms, with more to come surely down the road. Most of these have vague dates other than 2021, so here’s hoping none of these get delayed into 2022.

7 Disgaea 6: Defiance Of Destiny – Summer 2021

Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny will come out on January 28 in Japan and is set to release sometime this Summer in North America. The Japanese release will have both the PS4 and Switch versions but it looks like the Switch version will be exclusive for awhile. Anyway, this will be a big departure for the series in terms of visuals. All games going up until 2015 with the latest main release have used 2D sprites. This will be the first game to have 3D models. That said the tactical RPG mayhem will remain relatively untouched so don’t worry too much fans.

6 Poison Control – April 13th

Poison Control is set to launch on April 13 for Switch and PS4, which seems like the release for both Japan and North America at least. It is different than most NIS America games this year in that it is a third-person shooter.

Players assume the role of Poisonette and her soul companion who are in charge with freeing the underworld of corrupted souls. They do this via an arm canon that looks a lot like the one from Killer is Dead and not something more standard like Samus’ or Mega Man’s. The most distinct thing from the trailers is the reliance on bright pink visuals.

5 R-Type Final 2 – TBA 2021

R-Type Final 2 is set to launch sometime this Spring for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, which seems like the release for both Japan and North America, again, at the very least. Now, this series started back in 1987 and has been making a return sporadically in the past thirty plus years. The last was in 2018 via a collection of remakes called R-Type Dimensions which was for PC, PS4, and Switch. This game then is a sequel to the PS2 game that came  out in 2003 in Japan and a year later in the West. History aside it looks like another solid horizontal space shooter.

4 Saviors Of Sapphire Wings/Stranger Of Sword City Revisited – March 16th

Saviors of Sapphire Wings/Stranger of Sword City Revisited is set to launch on March 16 for PC and Switch, which seems like the release for both Japan and North America. Stranger of Sword City Revisited is actually a remaster packaged with the new game. The original debuted in 2014 on Xbox 360 and PC in Japan with the North American release not happening until 2016 via the PS Vita and Xbox One versions. It’s actually adding in a lot of new content. Saviors of Sapphire Wings follows the same turn-based RPG dungeon crawler formula but with a heavier anime aesthetic.

3 Ys IX: Monstrum Nox – Febuary 2nd

Ys IX: Monstrum Nox released on September 26, 2019 in Japan and is set to release on February 2 in North America for PS4. It’ll also release sometime in 2021 for Switch and PC. This will be the first new main entry since 2016’s Japan release, not counting ports.

It may look dated like something that belongs on the PS3 generation of consoles. Most look behind the times actually, but their action RPG gameplay is always on beat. Hopefully this will be true for this game as well.

2 The Legend Of Heroes: Trails Of Cold Steel IV – April 9th

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV first launched in Japan in 2018 before its 2020 debut in North America on October 27 for PS4. This release then is for the Switch and PC ports scheduled to come out on April 9. This is actually the final game in this arc, which started in 2013 for Japan and not until 2015 for North America. The Western releases, as it should be clear by now, have always been behind. A number of games in this series are still trapped exclusively in Japan. At least fans can rejoice that they could at least finish this arc in the ever-growing RPG franchise.

1 Fallen Legion: Revenants – TBA 2021

Fallen Legion: Revenants is set to release sometime in early 2021 for PS4 and Switch in Japan and at least North America too. Fallen Legion: Sins of an Empire first debuted in 2017 on PS4, which was the start of this series. Several ports and half sequels later, this is the newest addition. It, and the rest, are 2D turn-based RPGs with a small twist to the formula. They also keep positioning in mind when attacking on this small grid so it does have some tactical RPG DNA too.
