The world is out to get gamers who try to explore all of the mysteries in Mass Effect: Andromeda. Enemies from the sky, the ground, and all angles barrel down on players, letting them know that this new galaxy is not a hospitable place for them to settle a new colony. But giving up and going back home isn’t exactly an option, so the question becomes, “How does someone deal with an entire universe collapsing upon them?”
The answer? Collapse on them instead. Don’t play defense and wait for them, go on the offensive with one of the game’s melee weapons. Players can give up on using melee weapons early on because their damage falls behind most others, but no other type of weapon has boosts all over the skill trees like melee weapons do, giving them just as much viability by the end of the game as any other instrument of war. It’s just a matter of finding the right one to do the job.
On this list, damage numbers are based on a maximum-level weapon without any augments or upgrades so that players have access to the clearest data possible.
9 Electric Firaan
While the next game in the series is obligated to answer some crucial questions, hopefully someone is able to help gamers understand how the Electric Firaan is so terrible. On a logical level, it just makes no sense.
The damage, at 385, is less than a plain unelectrified firaan. What’s more, while every other elemental weapon on this list acts as a primer for tech combinations, the electricity from this actually never makes its way onto an opponent for a combo. So the electricity has not only made the weapon weaker, it doesn’t even work.
8 Remnant Cryo-Gauntlet
For some, the Remnant Cryo-Gauntlet might be the best melee weapon for their build. For characters that don’t want to go fully melee and just need to swing a quick attack that slows down opponents that are too close, this is a solid choice. It also primes up tech cryo combos.
But the 440 damage is way too low for a melee-centric build. People hoping the sequel will integrate elements of Andromeda want this item to stick around, but it would be great if it receives a very necessary boost to its overall DPS.
7 Angaran Firaan
The last Mass Effect game looks worse with each passing day in many respects. Maybe people would have a more favorable view of the game if the technologies in a new galaxy were exciting, different, and fun to use.
At 550 damage per swing, the Angaran Firaan is alright, but nothing special. It has no elemental effects (there is a terrible electric version already at the bottom of the charts), it has no pushback, and it has no special animations. It’s just a sword that feels like a knife at a gunfight.
6 Biotic Amplifier
Melee weapons start to get viable around the time players find a Biotic Amplifier. It’s basically just an augmented punch that hits for a solid 605 damage, but it doesn’t need anything too special to feel like it’s doing some work.
The stagger effect on this weapon is really its selling point. While some gamers are content to debate over whether the next installment in the series should be Mass Effect 4 or Andromeda 2, maybe there should be some consideration to doing something new entirely and having the protagonist be able to viably punch their way to victory.
5 Omni-Blade
The next game in the series might abandon both galaxies and do something different entirely, but the iconic cover of the Pathfinder in the air with an Omni-Blade is an image that excited fans when they first saw it and the weapon does satisfy a certain craving inside of the game.
It was nice for techies to not hide behind gizmos and gadgets for once with a powerful weapon already built-in to their systems. And the speed of this weapon is faster than people give it credit for. It’s often used in emergency situations, but it does just as well as in a feature role.
4 Krogan Hammer
Throughout the Mass Effect trilogy, galactic citizens have been fantasizing about the potential of the Krogan. Their history is one that saved the galaxy and could even be considered the subject of a TV show based on the franchise.
Their culture lives on in the Krogan Hammer, which knocks foes back and deals 880 damage, tied for the highest single-hit in the game. It’s a bit annoying to knock back foes that don’t die, but the lore behind the weapon often makes this weakness easy to tolerate.
3 Kett Carfalon
Despite the criticism, some additions in Mass Effect: Andromeda actually improved the series. Need evidence? How about a quick blade that deals lots of damage (715) and has lifesteal on it?
Players can thank the Kett for this technology. Ironically, the Pathfinder wields the weapon better than their greatest warriors. This is a top choice for a melee build due to the fact that ranged weapons fire received will be healed with every swing.
2 Kett Vakarsh
While the 660 physical damage might not be the highest in the game, factor in another 242 burn damage per second, and players are looking at the highest DPS melee weapon in the entire game. Swings reignite enemies, so anyone locked into combat will be slowly frying to death.
Additionally, tech masters will want to prioritize this weapon as burn combo finishes are primed by this weapon. With an array of finishers, the player can alternate swings and explosions for maximum effect.
1 Asari Sword
Tied for the top melee swing damage in the game, the Asari Sword adds three other effects that make it so that the community widely regards this weapon as the top tier selection for melee specialists.
First, the blade itself will teleport the user next to the target. Second, the user is made invincible and invisible during this transportation effect. Finally, the Asari Sword auto-targets the enemy and delivers an undodgeable blow to finish the job. This sequence can be immediately repeated until no enemy is left standing.
