One of the biggest indications of something new coming to the Pokemon series has been through the various names trademarked by Nintendo. While some trademarked titles such as Pokemon Grey and Pokemon Delta Emerald have gone nowhere in the past, it doesn’t mean that these aren’t things to pay attention to.
The newest trademark registrations for the Pokemon franchise under Nintendo were discovered and documented. While the names aren’t too specific, they also leave plenty of room for Pokemon fans to speculate on what is to be done with them.
Looking at the trademark documentation reveals two different names that have been registered by Nintendo, Creatures Inc, and Game Freak. These names are “Pokemon Wonder” and “Fusion Arts.“
While some may be initially excited and want to connect these names to a possible new Pokemon game, looking further into the trademark information reveals more details. For Pokemon Wonder, it is filled under the trademarks for “Food, Beverage, Education, Food/Accommodation.” With Fusion Arts, it is meanwhile filed under the much different trademarks for “Games, toys, and playthings.”
Looking at Pokemon Wonder means that it could be related to official food merchandise sold in stores or the upcoming Super Nintendo World located in Universal Studios Japan. It could even be related to the Pokemon Cafe located in Tokyo. With no official announcement however, the true identity of this trademark will remain under speculation until a reveal.
Fusion Arts meanwhile has a lot more room for speculation compared to Pokemon Wonder. The trademark category limits it to physical toys and games, meaning that it could possibly be related to the ever popular Pokemon Trading Card game. It could even be a Pokemon tabletop game or special toy that allows people to fuse Pokemon together to make new Pokemon.
Those aware of more obscure Pokemon trivia may be thinking of one thing and one thing only when it comes to Pokemon and fusion. This would be the lesser known Pokemon manga named Pokemon ReBURST. What made this manga stand out from other Pokemon manga, other than it never getting an official English translation, was the premise. It followed characters that not only battled using their Pokemon, but also had the ability to fuse with certain Pokemon and join the fights themselves. While it is unlikely, this new trademark could bring this concept back with a game or toy that more Pokemon fans will be able to experience.
