While Overwatch skin concepts are common, it is quite rare to see similar fan-made designs used for two different characters. However, one artist shows that this can work well, as a pair of matching skins have been shared for the Overwatch damage heroes Ashe and Widowmaker.
In the concepts, the duo is given a more studious look, as Redditor Sparrow_21 takes Overwatch fans back in time by presenting Widowmaker and Ashe how they may have looked in school. Starting with Widowmaker, the Overwatch hero with the saddest backstory, Amelie Lacroix looks far more cheerful than she does in most of her skins. Depicting the sniper before she was experimented on by Talon, her skin is pale as opposed to blue, something that is seen in only a handful of her in-game costumes.
Just as detailed as any official, in-game Widowmaker skin, plenty of touches are added to make the teenage version of the character feel realistic. From sunglasses on her head, spikier hair, and large hoop earnings worn, this take on the character is certainly different from many that have been shared in the past. Other details include Widowmaker’s logo appearing on her pink shirt alongside a bow, a sweater tied around her waist, and a redesigned version of her signature sniper rifle.
While Ashe already has some awesome Overwatch skins to unlock already, her Academy variant would quickly rank near the top if it was ever added to the game. Boasting the same school uniform as Widowmaker, with a pink shirt and skirt, having the former untucked shows Ashe’s personality well. Beyond that, her loose tie in place of the bow worn by Widowmaker suits Ashe’s usual style, and her own logo in the same position helps to round out the outlaw’s look.
Along with her iconic cowboy hat and a gold version of her lever-action Viper rifle, Ashe has more of her striking white hair exposed in this skin, something that would make Academy Ashe stand out even further. If Blizzard saw interest in putting these skins or something similar in Overwatch, Ashe and Widowmaker would be accompanying the tank hero D.Va in the school-based skin department. With players already being shown what D.Va officially looked like during high school, it would be great to see other Overwatch characters in their younger years as well.
Regardless, Sparrow_21 has done an awesome job with their skin concepts for the two heroes, and the designs likely took a good bit of time and effort. While many players were completing the Kanezaka skin challenge to unlock Hanzo’s new skin, Sparrow_21 was hard at work making their outfit dreams for Overwatch’s other snipers a reality — and based on how good they turned out, it was certainly worth the work.
Overwatch is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
