Pikachu, the most notorious Pokemon of them all, has had many different special forms throughout the years.
In the main Pokemon games, Special Pokemon are Pokemon that are banned from certain tournaments and battles. However, Special Pokemon also exist in the form of cards and in Pokemon GO. Due to being known as the mascot of the Pokemon franchise, Pikachu has been one of the Pokemon with the highest amount of different special forms throughout the years.
And it might be hard to pick a favorite between the various Special Pikachu available, so here some of the best Special Pikachu available.
10 Summer Style Pikachu
Ever wonder how cool a Pikachu would look wearing sunglasses? Well, look no further. The Special Summer Style Pikachu is exactly just that. A cool looking Pikachu rocking sunglasses and a straw hat.
This Special Pikachu was first released back in July, 2018. This Pokemon was released as a celebration of Pokemon GO‘s second anniversary. There are many event Pokemon in Pokemon GO and fans might find it hard to make room in their inventory for more of these but they’re too awesome to pass up.
9 Special Delivery Pikachu
The Special Delivery Pikachu is a Pokemon Card that was only available under specific circumstances.
It was released to celebrate the launch of the company’s new Canadian website this year. US and Canadian residents were eligible for this special offer. So, if they spent $20 dollars or more on the website, they would get this item added to their cart for free.
Though it’s a recent Pokemon Card, its price has already skyrocketed. Those that got it essentially for free after spending $20 on other items have now been selling the card for over $100.
8 Flower Crown Pikachu
Flower Crowns used to be a trend a while back. Those that had Tumblr will surely remember that pretty much everything would be edited with a flower crown on top of their heads for the sake of cuteness. Pikachu is no exception and the yellow Mouse Pokémon looks particularly adorable while wearing a flower crown.
Flower Crown Pikachu is a Special Pikachu that was released in February as a celebration of Pokemon Day, the anniversary of Red and Green’s release. The Flower Crown was most likely chosen because Spring was around the corner.
7 Pretend Boss Pikachu
Pretend Boss Pikachu are some of the most awesome looking Special Pikachu out there. These Pikachu are dressed up as Team Leaders of various villainous teams throughout the Pokemon series.
In total, there are 7 different Pretend Boss Pikachu variants. There’s a Pretend Boss Special Pikachu for Team Galactic, Team Magma, Team Rocket, Team Flare, Team Plasma, Team Aqua, and Team Skull.
Fans are only used to seeing the cute side of the yellow Mouse Pokemon so it’s hilarious to see a Pikachu that pretends to be the leader of an evil corporation.
6 Cosplay Pikachu
Cosplay Pikachu is a special Pikachu obtainable in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. This Pikachu has various different costumes, Rock Star, Belle, Pop Star, Ph.D., and Pikachu Libre.
Out of all of its costumes, Pikachu Libre is its most seen costume throughout the game series. It is a fighter in Pokkén Tournament and an alternative Pikachu Skin in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. On top of that, there’s even a promotional card of the Pikachu Libre costume. So, it’s safe to say it’s Cosplay Pikachu’s most successful costume.
5 Charizard Hat Pikachu
Charmander, a fan favorite when it comes to Pokemon starters, the same goes for its entire evolutionary chain. It is no coincidence Charizard has made it into almost everything that’s Pokemon related, it is one of the company’s faces.
Knowing this, there was an event Special Pikachu that absolutely rocked a Charizard Hat. Charizard Hat Pikachu is one of its most adorable forms, its ears bend down due to the weight of the hat on top of its head. It fails to make Pikachu look intimidating and it’ll be difficult to contain an “aww” by looking at it.
4 Flying Pikachu
One of the many Pikachu variants is Flying Pikachu. Flying Pikachu is a Special Pikachu that by holding onto balloons as the ability to fly.
This Pikachu can be seen in games such as Pokemon Yellow and Pokéwalker. Pokemon GO players had the chance to get it during a past event as well. It is also featured in Pokemon Snap for the Nintendo 64, however, it is called Balloon Pikachu. Hopefully, now that a new Pokemon Snap game has been announced, Balloon/Flying Pikachu will make a return.
3 Mimikyu Costume Pikachu
Mimikyu Costume Pikachu is a Halloween event Special Pikachu. One thing, in particular, that should be pointed out about this Pokemon. Mimikyu is a Pokemon that hides inside a rag. Mimikyu’s rag resembles a Pikachu as it has a Pikachu’s face drawn on it with crayons. Why a Pikachu? Well, because Mimikyu believe that they will make friends more easily if they look like a well-known Pokemon.
So, this Special Pikachu is actually wearing a costume of a Mimikyu that wears a costume of a Pikachu. This is actually pretty meta, making this Pokemon especially particularly interesting.
2 Mario Pikachu
What happens when Nintendo and the Pokemon franchise decide to mix the faces of their company into one? That’s right, Mario Pikachu happens and it looks fantastic.
This mashup resulted in the creation of one of the most awesome looking Special Pikachu. It’s called Mario Pikachu. According to its promotional card, the Pokemon’s moves are both related to Mario’s abilities. Its two moves are “Coin Gather” and “Super Jump”. This makes sense since Mario has always been known as “Jumpman” and he normally gathers coins throughout his adventures.
1 Detective Pikachu
Detective Pikachu, one of the most popular Pikachu forms to exist. In the Nintendo 3DS game as well as the movie, Detective Pikachu is capable of speaking human languages. A Special Detective Pikachu was obtainable in Pokémon GO as part of an event to promote the movie, but unfortunately, this one doesn’t talk. However, it still looks great in its detective hat!
This Pikachu definitely stands out when it comes to love and attention received from the fans. It even has its own amiibo and it’s much larger when compared to other amiibo.
