The countdown to Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto continues this week as players race through some exciting Hoenn Celebration Week challenges and take advantage of the increased spawns, special Egg hatches, and exciting Battle Raid bosses that are currently in place. Niantic has now confirmed that the nonstop action that has been taking place throughout January 2021 isn’t about to slow down next week. Instead, the generation throwback events will continue with a special Johto Celebration.
As most fans expected, the Unova, Sinnoh, and Hoenn events are going to be followed by a Johto Celebration Week before the spotlight goes all the way back to where it all started in Kanto. Much like the prior events, the Johto Celebration is all set to feature special spawns from the region in Pokemon GO, as well as unique research tasks, Egg hatches, Battle Raid bosses, and more.
The Johto Celebration is scheduled to kick off on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. and run until Sunday, January 31, 2021, at 8:00 p.m. local time. During that time, trainers will see the return of three popular Legendary Raid Battle bosses: Entei, Raikou, and Suicune. Collectors who are focusing on their shiny dex may also be happy to hear that the event offers a chance to encounter Shiny Miltank. That should certainly help drive some additional players to participate and take advantage of the event and its featured bonuses while it is active.
Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Mareep, Hoppip, Aipom, Sunkern, Yanma, Murkrow, Gligar, Snubbull, Slugma, Miltank, and more will be appearing more frequently in the wild. If you’re extremely lucky, you might encounter a Shiny Miltank!
The following Pokémon will be hatching from 5 km Eggs: Pichu, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Wooper, Tyrogue, Smoochum, and Larvitar.
Enjoy event-exclusive Field Research tasks that reward Stardust and lead to encounters with Pokémon such as Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Chinchou, Mareep, Sudowoodo, and Miltank.
The following Pokémon will be appearing in raids.
Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Mareep, Marill, and Larvitar will be appearing in one-star raids.
Togetic, Espeon, Umbreon, Skarmory, and Miltank will be appearing in three-star raids.
Complete the Johto-themed Collection Challenge during the event by collecting Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Sudowoodo, Sunkern, Murkrow, Smeargle, Miltank, and Larvitar to receive 15 Poké Balls, 10 Ultra Balls, and an Incense. Head on over to the Today View to track your progress!
Get Pokémon that know exclusive attacks from 2018 Community Day events! If you evolve the following Pokémon during the event, their Evolution will know an exclusive attack.
Evolve Bayleef (the evolved form of Chikorita) to get a Meganium that knows Frenzy Plant.
Evolve Quilava (the evolved form of Cyndaquil) to get a Typhlosion that knows Blast Burn.
Evolve Flaaffy (the evolved form of Mareep) to get an Ampharos that knows Dragon Pulse.
Evolve Pupitar (the evolved form of Larvitar) to get a Tyranitar that knows Smack Down.
The inclusion of some exclusive moves from 2018 Community Day events is a very exciting addition and shouldn’t be overlooked. Some of these move sets (like Tyranitar Smack Down, for example) are very powerful in the PoGO metagame and can be put to great use in Battle Raids or PvP matches. Trainers who missed these opportunities in 2018 (or who have a higher IV version of these Pokemon now) should definitely take full advantage of this opportunity next week.
As trainers continue working through these amazing Celebration events and enjoying the new era of the GO Beyond update as they count down to the next season, they may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
Pokemon GO is available on Android and iOS.
