Pokemon GO is filled with many different Pokemon of varying types, appearances, and abilities. Some of the rarest Pokemon, however, are the legendary Pokemon, many often being only available for limited amounts of time or through completing tasks.
With one of the biggest parts of Pokemon being the encouragement of trading, many Pokemon GO players trade Pokemon with friends. This also helps players work toward collecting them all and completing their in-game Pokedex.
Since legendary Pokemon are rare, it makes since for some players wanting to share any extras they have with friends who don’t have them. However, trading legendary Pokemon might be more difficult for some players more than others.
Legendary Pokemon can, in fact, be traded in Pokemon GO. There is, however, a steep price for them that many players might not be able to afford.
Like with powering up Pokemon, trading Pokemon in Pokemon GO also costs players stardust. The price of the trade is based upon what kind of Pokemon is being traded, and how close the relationship between the two trade parties are.
When trading legendary Pokemon, the base cost of the trade will cost player 1,000,000 stardust. This price can be reduced to 20,000, if the player receiving the Pokemon already has that legendary Pokemon registered in their Pokedex. As players increase their friendship with each other, this price will go down.
If players are trading with a legendary Pokemon while as Great Friends, the trade will cost 800,000 stardust if unregistered, or 16,000 stardust if registered. At the Ultra Friend level, the trade will then go down to 80,000 for unregistered legendary Pokemon and 1,600 for registered. Finally, once players reach the level of Best Friends, the legendary price for unregistered Pokemon will be 40,000 and a measly 800 stardust for registered Pokemon.
Players can only trade one legendary Pokemon or shiny Pokemon in one day. Pokemon that are traded in alternate forms or event costumes that the other player hasn’t obtained yet are also counted as unregistered.
While most legendary Pokemon can be traded, mythical Pokemon cannot be traded. The only exception to this rule is Meltan and Melmetal. With this in mind, all current Pokemon that cannot be traded are:
- Mew
- Celebi
- Jirachi
- Deoxys (Normal Form, Attack Form, Defense Form, and Speed Form)
- Darkrai
- Victini
- Genesect
- Hacked Pokemon
- Buddy Pokemon
- Pokemon defending gyms
- Pokemon not at full health
- Eggs
- Shadow Pokemon
- Pokemon that have already been traded
While these limitations may seem harsh, they would be helpful in the case someone’s account was compromised and someone attempted to steal their Pokemon away. With shiny Pokemon also following these prices, however, it might make it hard for players to trade some of their extra shiny Pokemon.
Pokemon GO is available now on Android and iOS.
