Pokemon Sword & Shield: Every Pokemon That Evolves With The Dusk Stone (& Where To Catch Them)

Dusk Stones became a part of the Pokemon world in the Diamond and Pearl generation. In the Sword and Shield games, an infinite amount of these evolution items can be found thanks to Lake Outrage and the Digging Duo. However, these stones only are usable on four Pokemon out of the total of 898 of them. This is the case for all the evolution stones.

The types of Pokemon Dusk Stones evolve are Dark and Ghost-types. That is only reasonable since dusk is the time of day when it’s about to become dark outside.

With easy access to the stones, it can be a greater challenge for players to actually find and determine which Pokemon the stones actually can be used on. In Sword and Shield, this is especially true since spawn rates of Pokemon can greatly differ depending on location and the weather. There are also some that are not available in the game. In fact, half of the Pokemon that use a Dusk Stone are not in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

4 Murkrow To Honchkrow

Introduced in generation two, Murkrow did not get an evolution until the same generation that introduced the Dusk Stone. Part Dark-type and part Flying-type, Murkrow is actually the only Pokemon that uses a Dusk Stone that is not a Ghost-type. It’s evolved form, Honchkrow, has its design based on a crime boss with a fedora.

Unfortunately for the many fans of this Pokemon, Murkrow did not make it to the Galar region games. Since the DLC expansions were released, Murkrow has still not been added to the game. Players who have one in their Pokemon Home will just have to wait until future games to use a Dusk Stone on it. On the bright side though, that is one less Pokemon to worry about catching for the Galar Pokedex.

3 Misdreavus To Mismagius

Misdreavus is a parallel Pokemon to Murkrow, as it was introduced in the same generation (and was actually the only new Ghost-type introduced in the Johto region) and also did not get an evolution until the Diamond and Pearl games. Murkrow was an exclusive to certain titles, and Misdreavus would be the exclusive to the opposing titles. For example, Murkow was exclusive for the Diamond and Black games while Misdreavus was exclusive for Pearl and White. Unlike Murkrow though, Misdreavus is a pure Ghost-type.

In Sword and Shield, Misdreavus continues to have its fate tied with Murkrow. That’s right, Misdreavus is not anywhere in the Galar region either. Another Dusk Stone saved. Misdreavus and Murkrow are missed, but hopefully they will reappear in future Pokemon titles. After all, fans love its evolution because its design is similar to witches and mages. It is truly a great loss for the Galar region.

2 Lampent To Chandelure

Part Ghost-type and Fire-type, Lampent is the second stage evolution that sits between Litwick and Chandelure. It evolves from a Litwick at level 41 and requires a Dusk Stone to finally become a Chandelure. Chandelure is the most popular generation five Pokemon according to the 2020 Pokemon Poll that was held by the Pokemon Company. Fans love it for its gothic design.

Unlike Murkrow and Misdreavus, Lampent and its evolution line is available in the Sword and Shield games. In fact, finding one is pretty simple because they only appear in one location. They have a 14 percent chance of spawning at the Lake of Outrage during intense sun. This is only overworld too, so do not bother in the tall grass. Since the Lake of Outrage is also where players can find evolution stones, they can both catch Lampent and get a Dusk Stone to use on it all at once.

1 Doublade To Aegislash

Doublade is much like Lampent in that it is a Ghost-type at its second stage of its three stages of evolution. Doublade evolves from a Honedge at level 35 but needs a Dusk Stone to become an Aegislash. Being part Ghost and part Steel-type, this evolution line is the only Pokemon to have that type combination. Doublade also highest defense stat of Ghost-type Pokemon while Aegislash has the same title for Special Defense. In other words, players (particularly competitive ones) typically want one of these guys on their team if not at least in a box due to its strength and uniqueness.

In a game called Sword and Shield, it would be pretty tragic to not have this sword and shield Pokemon in their region. Luckily, the game does have them. It can be found at Lake Outrage during a Snowstorm, but only in the tall grass and has a 25 percent spawn rate. The best place to find one though is the Giant’s Cap, as they can appear overworld there in any weather except fog.
