WandaVision Fan Theory Says There’s More To Dottie Than Meets The Eye

Almost one week in since WandaVision premiered its first two episodes and only a few hours away from the third one dropping on Disney Plus, MCU fans are still trying to figure out just exactly what’s going on in Marvel’s bizarre superhero sitcom.

WandaVision is purposefully shrouded in mystery as the show aims to set up the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame and tie in directly into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but during its first full hour it left viewers with many more questions than answers. Chief among them, just how exactly is it that Vision is alive? Or how much from the cozy suburbs of Westview is made up by Wanda Maximoff’s powerful mind.

And then of course there’s the matter of who exactly is the villain in this new Marvel plot. Though the ever-present S.W.O.R.D. certainly plays a big part in all of this, recent fan theory from some redditors suggest there might be some other mischievous forces pulling the strings. As pointed out by Unknxwn___ the character Dottie Jones, Westview’s own real desperate housewife, could be a facade for Marvel’s Mephisto, a powerful shape-shifting demon used to altering reality to suit his desires.

This theory would point to Agnes acting as Mephisto’s assistant, and the devilish figure acting as a key figure in enabling the Scarlet Witch’s pregnancy with her own twins, something similar to events from the comics. When coupled with the fact that Mephisto is a frequent foe of Doctor Strange in Marvel Comics, it would make perfect sense for him to be acting in disguise as Westview’s most influential resident.

As if that weren’t enough, there is one other Reddit theory shared by the user lickmyundies that describes a more convoluted plot where Dottie’s real identity is that of Clea, Supreme Sorceress of the Dark Dimension inhabited by Dormammu, Doctor’s Strange main foe in the first movie. According to this theory, S.W.O.R.D. is toying with Wanda’s frail subconscious and would set up several battles with other villains, including Mephisto possessing Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver’s body at some point in the plot.

Of course, all of this speculation could easily be thrown out the window by tomorrow, but everything about WandaVision suggests these theories are not that far fetched and that the miniseries could indeed take the MCU into previously unexplored territories, or realities for that matter.

WandaVision is exclusively available on Disney Plus.
