After the DMR nerf, the Warzone community is looking for a new meta weapon to take over the game. Unfortunately, many of the Cold War weapons still need some work and are not yet viable in the game. However, there are a handful that are usable, and players should work on leveling them up to use in Warzone.
Many of the meta Modern Warfare weapons are still near the top of the list when it comes to both theoretical time to kill and recoil. Until the Cold War weapons are fixed and buffed, players will see a few Modern Warfare weapons sneak into the meta.
10 Cold War Assault Rifle: FFAR
The FFAR is one of the best Cold War weapons added to the game. The weapon beats out the RAM-7 and the Groza at close ranges, and it has the fastest time to kill of the automatic assault rifles. The FFAR is best paired with a sniper because of its moderate recoil and high fire rate. At close to medium ranges, the FFAR will beat all assault rifles and many SMGs in the game. The gun is great for players that enjoy close quarters combat.
9 Modern Warfare Assault Rifle: CR-56 AMAX
It is no surprise after the Kilo and DMR nerf that the AMAX is the best assault rifle to use in Warzone. The gun has great damage ranges and its recoil is controllable enough to be viable at more than 50 meters.
Players can opt to use the gun as their primary weapon and equip the VLK 3.0x optic, or pair the gun with a sniper. Until the Cold War weapons get buffed, expect to see a lot of players using the AMAX.
8 Cold War SMG: MAC-10
The MAC-10 is still one of the best SMGs in the game even after the nerf. Raven only nerfed the headshot damage values and the upper chest damages remain the same. Players will no longer be immediately erased by the MAC, but it is still as good as the Cold War MP5, if not better. The MAC-10 is still viable at medium ranges and the gun has incredible recoil for a weapon with a high fire rate.
7 Modern Warfare SMG: MP5
The MP5 is a weapon that has been meta since the launch of Warzone. It rivals the best Cold War SMGs and has a marked advantage over the other Modern Warfare SMGs. The Fennec is also a great weapon, but the gun’s fast fire rate and low ammo capacity make it more of a solo or duo weapon. The MP5 is here to stay, and players can feel confident that the gun will compete with any SMG in the game.
6 Cold War Shotgun: Streetsweeper
While technically not in the game yet, there is a glitch that allows players to use the Streetsweeper in Warzone before the midseason update. The evidence thus far suggests that the semi-automatic shotgun will be a very good gun to use in Warzone.
Thankfully, it does not look as dominant as the Origin or R-9 pre nerf. Once the street sweeper can be unlocked, players should give it a try in Warzone. With the akimbo Diamatti nerf, players can now try a different weapon in tight scenarios.
5 Modern Warfare Shotgun: Origin 12
The Origin 12 is still a powerful gun to use in close quarters situations. It will no longer obliterate entire teams with a few shots, but it will beat many SMGs up close. The Origin 12 is easy to use and will be the best Modern Warfare shotgun in Season 1. The gun’s damage drop off is drastic, and players should only use the weapon within ten to fifteen meters. Most Warzone players dropped the Origin 12 after the R-9 shotgun became the meta shotgun in the game. It is inevitable that players start using the gun up close now that the MAC-10 is not quite as good as it was on December 16th.
4 Cold War LMG: Stoner 63
All of the Cold War weapons are still suffering from bullet velocity and attachment issues. For example, the barrel on the Stoner that should increase vehicle damage actually increases bullet velocity. Despite these issues, the Stoner 63 is the best all around LMG from Cold War. Because the rear grips are currently not working as intended, the weapon has a very slow aim down sight and movement speed. Once Raven fixes the attachments, players should not be surprised when the Stoner becomes one of the better guns in the game.
3 Modern Warfare LMG: Bruen Mk9
Many players swear by the PKM, but the Bruen is still the best LMG to use in Warzone. When the gun was nerfed, its damage ranges and recoil were increased. However, players can offset the nerf by keeping the stock ammo capacity and adding rubberized grip tape, as well as the Tac Laser. By adding these attachments, the weapon will feel like the Bruen from a few months ago. Infinity Ward nerfed the recoil on the 60 round magazine, so players should avoid using it in their classes.
2 Cold War Tactical Rifles and Snipers: LW3 – Tundra
The AUG and M16 are great weapons and will likely rise to the top of the Cold War weapons once Raven fixes the velocity and attachment issues. However, after the DMR nerf, the Tundra appears to be the best of the tactical rifles and snipers. The Cold War snipers have relatively quick aim down sight speeds and the Tundra has the least bullet drop of the snipers. Players that have tried the Tundra blueprints in Warzone know how powerful the gun can be.
1 Modern Warfare Marksman Rifles and Snipers: Kar98k
The Kar is essentially tied with the SPR, but many of the best players use the Kar98 instead. By using the right attachments, players can create a one shot weapon with incredible aim down sight speed and accuracy. The problem with using the Kar is the low chest and limb damage. Players that miss the head will sometimes have to hit an opponent three times to get a down. Skilled snipers can take advantage of the quickness and accuracy of the weapon. The Kar is versatile and can be used at medium and long range.
