With the end of the current season quickly approaching, Bungie gave Destiny 2 fans a big update on its plans for Season 13. While story and activity details are still unknown at this time, Bungie did provide insight into what it is doing about FOMO, or fear of missing out. Previous seasons would leave many fans with this feeling as most of the seasonal content was removed from the game leaving those who came late left out in the cold. However, that is changing as just about everything is staying except Crow’s bounties, the seasonal pass and artifact, as well as the messages from the field.
In addition to dealing with FOMO, Bungie also confirmed that it is bringing back Umbral Engrams and the Prismatic Recaster to help focus the loot into something more specific. Not only is this intended to help offset the damage that gear sunsetting has caused, it also gives players another way to farm gear that they want. While these were a bit plentiful in Season 11, the drop rate has been tweaked in season 13 so they shouldn’t drop quite as often.
As the Season of the Hunt winds down, the exotic merchant Xur has made his weekly appearance inside of Destiny 2 with an updated inventory of exotic gear. Follow this guide for his location, news on his exotic cypher quest, as well as a review of what he’s currently selling for the weekend of January 22, 2021.
This weekend, players can track Xur back inside of the European Dead Zone in his usual spot overlooking the Winding Cove.
Fast travel to the Winding Cove zone and immediately head towards the back where the Fallen typically patrol. Climb the cliffs back here to find Xur standing on a ledge not too far from a crashed ship.
While Xur’s role is essentially the same as it was prior to the Beyond Light expansion, the exotic merchant also has weekly quests that players can acquire to unlock an exotic cypher. Not only are these required to purchase a second fated engram, but they’re necessary to acquire legacy exotic gear from the new kiosk. Players can earn a new cypher by completing strikes and winning crucible or gambit matches. Gain bonus points for playing with clanmates or finishing more challenging activities.
Other than that, here are Xur’s three gear pieces this weekend:
Karnstein Armlets – Warlock gauntlets
After being available on Christmas, the Karnstein Armlets are back in stock. These are a strong Warlock exotic item, that gives the player added survivability thanks to its exotic perk. Upon a melee kill, Vampire’s Caress restores a large portion of health while also continuing to restore health for a short duration afterward.
This is an item that all Warlocks should have as it’s a very strong item in PvE situations and activities like Gambit, Escalation Protocol, or Blind Well where there are large groups of enemies to overcome. There are much better options for PvP players, but it’s a fun exotic to play around with otherwise. For those looking for a strong resilience build, these are also a pretty solid exotic option this week.

- Recovery +7
- Discipline +15
- Intellect +2
- Strength +13
Lucky Raspberry – Hunter chest armor
A classic exotic item from the base version of Destiny 2, the Lucky Raspberry remains a somewhat underwhelming exotic. This item specifically targets arc-bolt users, so they can be safely ignored for everyone else. Through the Probability Matrix perk, Arc Bolt grenades have increased chaining capabilities and also have a chance to recharge each time it deals damage. A full chain always recharges.
Naturally, this exotic offers zero value for players not using arc bolt grenades. Ultimately, there are better options available so this is another item players can pass on.

- Resilience +7
- Recovery +9
- Discipline +15
- Intellect +6
- Strength +9
Actium War Rig – Titan chest armor
It’s been a while, but the Actium War Rig is back in stock for Titan players. When paired with an auto rifle, the Actium War Rig turns the player into a shredder. Auto-Loading Link steadily reloads a portion of your equipped Auto Rifle’s magazine from reserves.
Thankfully, Destiny 2 has a ton of viable assault rifles these days including already popular options like the Gnawing Hunger or SUROS Regime. Naturally, fans of auto rifles should definitely grab this exotic, while everyone else can feel free to pass even with a huge mobility stat this week.
Arc Enhanced. Stat Values:
- Mobility +29
- Resilience +3
- Recovery +3
- Discipline +15
- Intellect +6
- Strength +10
Skyburner’s Oath is a classic Destiny 2 exotic, something introduced at launch with the base game and is based off of a Cabal’s weapon. The defining feature of this weapon comes from its perk Slug Rifle which alters the firing rate of the weapon. Skyburner’s Oath lobs explosive rounds that get stronger and faster when aiming down the sights. So instead of lobbing shots that track when hip firing, aiming down the sights actually turns the fired rounds into a faster, straighter, and more damaging explosive bullet. It also does more damage to Cabal enemies and rips through Phalanx Shields.
Ultimately, it can be a fun weapon to mess around with when fighting Cabal enemies, but it’s not a weapon that is anywhere near the top of the meta and can be safely avoided. In addition, this weapon is also easily outclassed by other Scout Rifles in the game. For those players who don’t yet have it, it is worth picking up to check the item off of the collections, so using the Exotic Engram won’t pull it in favor of something that the player doesn’t yet have.
