Genshin Impact fans have been spending the new year continuing to explore the Dragonspine region, and meeting new characters like Albedo and Ganyu. Despite the new content Version 1.2 introduced, players have also been on the lookout for more, especially considering the number of leaks circulating social media.
Version 1.2 of the game is well underway, and Genshin Impact players still have two in-game events to take part in. Nonetheless, Travelers have been well-aware that spring 2021 will bring about Version 1.3 of the game, along with new characters like Xiao and Ayaka, and perhaps even the Inazuma region.
With Genshin Impact’s beta holding the 2020 Lantern Festival in March, most players anticipated some major update in March 2021, possibly introducing Xiao and or the region of Inazuma. That being said, it seems at least part of that theory has been debunked. As per a new Version 1.3 trailer, players can rest assured that Xiao will not only be one of the main Version 1.3 features, but he will also be introduced alongside the update on February 3, 2021.
There was no mention of any other new character in the Version 1.3 teaser trailer, and the video ends with a simple “2/3” displayed beside Xiao at the end. This has been taken to mean that Version 1.3 will be arriving on February 3. More importantly though, it signifies that Xiao’s banner, possibly called “Invitation to Mundane Life,” will commence on that date as well.
If there were some other characters featured during the trailer, this would be more ambiguous, but given the fact that the trailer was effectively a Xiao showcase, fans and pros alike are confident that the game’s developer miHoYo intends to release both as a combo. While Xiao may have already garnered some popularity among the Genshin Impact fanbase, some players may not be as familiar with him.
Xiao is an Anemo-wielding Adeptus, which means he’s more than an average human fighter. Practically speaking, he prefers polearms in combat, and is classified as a five-star character, so players will presumably only be able to Wish for him via Intertwined Fates and the Special Character Banner. Given that Xinyan makes a brief cameo in the trailer, some speculate that she may be one of the featured four-star characters in Xiao’s banner.
Aside from potential new four-stars to go along with Xiao, this trailer announcement also begs the question of who is coming after. Players generally expect two characters per major update, so whether or not a new four-star is featured in Xiao’s banner, Version 1.3 will likely follow through with an additional five-star at some point. Given recent leaks regarding Hu Tao, and the fact that character Ayaka is purportedly almost “complete,” it wouldn’t be entirely unexpected to see one of them join the fray in February or March. However, the question remains for which character players should spend their Primogems on.
Genshin Impact is available now on the App Store, Google Play, PC, and PS4, and is currently in development for PS5 and Switch.
