Resident Evil 8 Village Unveils Chilling New Trailer | Game Rant

Capcom has unveiled a new trailer for Resident Evil 8: Village as part of the Resident Evil Showcase livestream, which included the premiere of several new pieces of content.

Resident Evil 8: Village marks developer and publisher Capcom’s 10th major installment in its Resident Evil series, and serves as a direct sequel to 2017’s Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Initially announced in June 2020, the highly anticipated title had its May 2021 release date revealed as part of the showcase.

The Resident Evil 8 Village trailer begins from what appears to be the perspective of protagonist Ethan Winters, the same character gamers played in Resident Evil 7. After a hazy vision of (possibly) Mia, the trailer then cuts to shots of a mysterious and creepy European village. Ominous bells and a disembodied voice fill viewer’s ears as the footage slowly progresses up the mountain and into the castle.

Fans then see Lady Dimitrescu, the game’s main antagonist, taking a phone call with “Mother Miranda,” potentially revealing details about Resident Evil 8: Village‘s plot. The remainder of the trailer is a montage of the castle’s eerie interior, a run-in with some classic-looking zombies, and other goodies fans will surely want to watch.

The trailer was one of several that premiered as part of the Resident Evil Showcase in celebration of the franchise’s 25th anniversary. Capcom also gave fans a first look at Resident Evil 8: Village’s gameplay, with many online comments drawing comparisons to a combination of RE7‘s gameplay with the aesthetics present in Resident Evil 4. There were many fans disappointed at the end of the livestream, as rumors surrounding a Resident Evil 4 remake had been in circulation leading up to the broadcast.

In addition to new footage regarding the latest mainline entry in the series, Capcom has also unveiled the first trailer for Resident Evil Re:Verse, the long-rumored multiplayer game, which leaked hours before the official release. The showcase also gave fans an update on Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, which was confirmed to arrive on Netflix at some point later this year. The CGI series will focus on popular series regulars Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy.

Resident Evil fans are buzzing with all of the new info. The video game series has been lauded for the return to its survival-horror roots, and even the divisive decision to transition from third to first-person seems to be more accepted now. Players can get their hands on The Maiden, a standalone demo for Resident Evil 8 Village, now on PS5.

Resident Evil 8: Village launches on May 7, 2021, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
