Bloober Team Releases New Behind-The-Scenes Video For The Medium

Bloober Team has released a brand new video in preparation for the launch of the developer’s upcoming horror title The Medium. The video goes through a number of neat little behind-the-scenes facts about the development of Bloober Team’s Next-Gen horror title, including a few pieces of trivia that longtime even fans of the developer might not be aware of.

In the video, Bloober’s Michal Napora goes over a number of what the developer refers to as “uncanny facts” about both the development of The Medium as well as how certain features will work in the upcoming release. This might get players prepped and ready to go for when the game comes out, especially for fans that would be interested in some of the real-world inspirations for some of the visuals present in the game.

There are a total of nine facts that Napora recounts throughout the video, many pertaining to the early development of the game as a title originally intended for the Wii U, Xbox 360, and PS3. Considering that The Medium is now next-gen and Microsoft exclusive, imagining the duel reality mechanic pushed back by two generations of consoles would be a very different game. Interestingly enough, some of the original promotional material from those earlier days can still be found by collectors, including postcards that would have advertised the game by mail rather than simply posting online.

Additionally, Napora comments on how many of the areas found within the game are based on real-world locations, such as the abandoned hotel Niwa being almost a 1-to-1 recreation of a place called Hotel Cracovia in Krakow, Poland. Other locations can be found both in game and out in real life as well, with some even having connections to previous Bloober titles like Observer: System Redux. However, not every one of these uncanny facts is necessarily about the game’s development, as some little details pertaining to Marianne’s psychic powers in The Medium are also explored to give players a deeper understanding of the world.

This upcoming title already has quite a bit going for it to intrigue horror fans, especially after the success of Bloober Team’s previous titles like Observer and The Blair Witch. However, the smaller details that went into development shown off in this new video might still be able to get those who weren’t already drawn in by The Medium‘s duel-world mechanic to give the game a try. These are the levels of attention that can really help a horror title deliver the scares.

The Medium is set to release on January 28th for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
