While most Call of Duty Zombies fans have been getting excited over the new releases for the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War map Firebase Z, one dedicated slayer of the undead has been hard at work on creating a replica. Instead of remaking a basic Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War weapon, though, the player has 3D printed one of the mode’s most memorable wonder weapons.
Call of Duty Zombies replicas are not unheard of, as fans have previously shared real-life models of the Ray Gun and the Ice Staff from the map origins. Recently, YouTuber Nick Martinelli brought Zombies’ Wunderwaffe DG-2 to the real world, with the gun’s signature lightning blasts replaced using fire. In Martinelli’s Wunderwaffe showcase, the first step to the DG-2’s creation is 3D printing — the same method used for a brand new Thundergun replica.
Though its origins are not shared in the Reddit post, as it may have just been a random thought or an urge spurred on by using the weapon in its Zombies Chronicles appearances, the “fully 3D printed Thundergun” is a sight to behold. Featuring the signature yellow-and-black construction tape on the weapon’s stock as well as its cylindrical barrel, every aspect of the weapon matches its in-game design. The recreation looks very professional at that, boasting a paint job that makes the weapon look worn and used.
One of the best Wonder Weapons ever introduced to the arsenals of Zombies players, the Thundergun first appeared in 2010’s Kino Der Toten. It later appeared in Ascension and Revelations, with the final use of the weapon being in 2019’s Tag Der Toten. With the Dark Aether storyline technically taking place in a new universe, it remains to be seen if the Thundergun will reappear like the Ray Gun.
This replica was made by Apropalypse, with their post receiving heaps of praise in the CODZombies subreddit. Apropalypse confirms the 3D-printed parts had to be assembled “very carefully,” with it taking “a very, very long time.” It seems like it was worth the work, however, as it is hard not to be impressed by the accuracy of the Thundergun’s design. While many fans have made replicas of popular Call of Duty Zombies perks, there are very few that likely own a Thundergun.
With Firebase Z bringing a new wonder weapon along with its new cast of characters, dedicated fans like this Redditor could have something else to make with their 3D Printers. For now though, this Thundergun seems about as cool as it gets, and seeing the weapon in real life should make any Zombies fan jealous.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
