Devil Engine Artist Asks Fans Not to Buy the Game | Game Rant

In a tweet posted to the Devil Engine twitter account, Thomas and Joseph Bailey, the duo behind the art and music for the game, have asked fans not to purchase the game stating that it is being sold without their consent. Unfortunately, this is not the first time that the behind the scenes legal trouble with Devil Engine has outshined the retro style shooter’s actual gameplay.

Back in July 2020, the person behind Protoculture games, Tristan Chapman, publicly claimed that they hadn’t been paid for the work they had done on Devil Engine and was thus prevented from releasing any additional content for the game. Fast forward to January 11th, 2021 when the teams released a joint statement saying they had “resolved their issues to mutual satisfaction” and it seemed the troubles had passed and it was time for Devil Engine to take its rightful place as one of 2019’s best, if most overlooked, games.

Things went south once again however, and one week after announcing that everything was fine, Thomas and Joseph Bailey took to the official Devil Engine twitter page to tell fans that Tristan was selling the game against their wishes. Now stuck in the middle of this war on twitter rivalled only by Elon Musk, shoot ’em up fans are left wondering whether or not they should purchase the otherwise well regarded game.

While it isn’t unheard of for such legal problems to pop up where game mods are concerned, it is much rarer for official releases like Devil Engine to find themselves in the same type of trouble. Hopefully these issues are soon resolved once and for all so Devil Engine can be enjoyed as it should be.

Devil Engine is available now for PlayStation 4, Steam, and Switch.
