Resident Evil 7: How Long to Beat It | Game Rant

Resident Evil 8 is still a few months away from release, and new players may want to experience Resident Evil 7 before heading on to meet the internet’s favorite Lady Dimitrescu in the upcoming game. Resident Evil 7 is currently available for free on Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus Collection and may serve as the perfect appetizer before its next-gen sequel arrives.

Resident Evil series is known to tuck away multiple single-player campaigns in a single package. 2012’s Resident Evil 6 featured four distinct campaigns that intertwined at some point. These campaigns focused on returning Resident Evil characters such as Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, and Ada Wong while also introducing a new protagonist, Jake Muller, in another one. In Resident Evil 7, however, players only get to play as Ethan Winters, which significantly reduces the time it takes to finish the main campaign.

On normal difficulty, Resident Evil 7 could take over 9-10 hours to beat. Once players have beaten the game, a Madhouse difficulty setting is unlocked that offers a more challenging survivor horror experience. Players experiencing the game on Madhouse difficulty will notice altered enemy behavior and their locations, surprisingly low resources, as well as new collectibles. Additionally, players will have to find one-time usable cassettes to save their game over at the tape recorder. Keeping all of this in mind, Resident Evil 7 on Madhouse difficulty could take over 10-14 hours to finish, depending on the player’s capabilities.

Resident Evil 7 offers three paid DLC expansions and a fourth, free DLC, all of which comes bundled in the gold edition. Banned Footage Vol. 1 & 2 has players unraveling the mysteries of the Baker family, both of which could take over 1.5 hours to complete. The End of Zoe expansion features one of Resident Evil 7’s most prominent characters and has players exploring the outskirts of the Baker house. This could take over 1.5-2 hours to complete. The fourth and final free DLC, Not a Hero, allows players to helm the shoes of Chris Redfield, who goes on an expedition for a corporation named Blue Umbrella. This could also take over 1.5-2 hours to finish. On average, finishing the main campaign and all of the DLC’s of Resident Evil 7 could take over 12-13 hours.

In the generation where most AAA games offer 20-40 hours of content, Resident Evil 7’s short campaign stands out and has sold over 8 million copies so far. However, fans disappointed with the game’s length should not worry about its upcoming sequel. According to a known insider, Resident Evil 8 would be the longest RE Engine game to date. These include the likes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, Devil May Cry 5, as well as Resident Evil 7.

Resident Evil  7 is now available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
