The First ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Trailer Has Finally Dropped

The trailer for the long awaited Godzilla vs. Kong movie has finally dropped and it looks like it’ll be a wild ride. The Adam Wingard directed film is the fourth in Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’s MonsterVerse, following GodzillaKong: Skull Island, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters. And the wait for this film, has been a long one.

The shared universe between Godzilla and King Kong was announced all the way back in 2015 with details of this film coming in 2017. Originally, it was set to release in March of 2020 but was delayed to November, and then delayed again to March of 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The story seems to be set after the events of the previous films, where something is provoking Godzilla and the world is counting on Kong to save them. They also seem to allude to a war between the species, with deep roots from before humanity even existed.

The trailer clearly conveys itself as an action-packed, epic blockbuster of a film. The monsters are massive and intimidating. The music is fast-paced and intense. There’s not much sense of mystery or wonder at all, as there is even get a lot of footage of Kong and Godzilla fighting. The cast features some big names like Millie Bobby Brown, Alexander Skarsgard, and Rebecca Hall, but the monsters are clearly the stars of the show here.

This is not the first time Godzilla and King Kong have appeared on the big screen together. However, it has been nearly 50 years since they first battled in 1962’s King Kong vs. Godzilla. While this MonsterVerse is unrelated to the original Japanese Godzilla/Kong franchise and this film does not serve as a remake, fans are hopeful that there will be some nods to the very well-loved original, which is to date the most attended Godzilla film in Japan.

The hype for this trailer has been very strong, with multiple people hosting livestreams on YouTube counting down to the release, and it certainly looks very epic. Hopefully, the film itself will deliver and the trailer doesn’t give away too many of the best parts, but for now people seem very excited.

Godzilla vs. Kong will play in open theaters and stream on HBO Max on March 26, 2021.
