Microsoft has a surprise for Edge users, brand new themes based on famous Xbox games. The Edge browser is getting a fancy new paint job with multiple features in a recent update from Microsoft.
In the competitive world of internet browsers, unique qualities can help attract users. Themes are pretty standard regardless of whatever portal a person chooses, but now there are a few exclusive themes for Edge. Overall, themes are mostly cosmetic and for personalization. The feature appeals to users because it changes elements like colors, tab pages, the address bar, and more.
Fans of famous Xbox series have an option to customize their Edge browser with their favorite game. There are a variety of options, including big names like Halo, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Forza Horizon 4, Gears Of War, and Sea of Thieves which announced a new season. However, there are also titles that are a bit more niche, such as Ori and the Will of Wisps and Grounded. The great part is that users can grab any of these themes for free. Just head over to the Microsoft Edge Add-on Store and apply the theme from there.
While changing up the look of the Edge browser is the most glamorous addition, that is not the only new aspect. These options come as part of an update for the entire browser, so Edge fans have more benefits to enjoy. A sleeping tabs feature is coming too, which improves performance by releasing resources to inactive tabs. Password safety is improving as well, a problem even for programmers and their hard drives. Password manager suggests strong codes when signing up for a site, and password monitor can alert any key leaks.
Even though Edge has been around for a while, it is still less popular than Chrome or Firefox. The browser itself was originally released to modernize the Internet Explorer option, to little avail. It is interesting that Microsoft is willing to incorporate its gaming side into the browser. Themes may not be the biggest draw for web customers, but at least these unique designs can set Edge apart from the crowd. Plus, the extra features and a huge Windows 10 revamp may bring in people who could have been on the fence.
Unfortunately, it is unlikely that these updates will substantially boost Edge in any meaningful way. Themes have been a part of other browsers for years, so these Xbox themed versions are not really shaking things up. While password monitor sounds handy for security breaches and changing passwords, it is still a minor addition. In any case, current Microsoft Edge users and Xbox fans will no doubt be excited to check out the newest themes available for the browser.
