Resident Evil 8 Price Not Going Up With Other Next-Gen Games

With the arrival of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles, video games are starting to get more expensive. Some publishers have been experimenting with a $10 price increase for video game software, the first major price jump in well over a decade. Many next-gen games have gone with a $69.99 price point instead of the usual $59.99, and it’s expected that $69.99 will eventually become the norm. One game that fans don’t have to worry about paying an extra $10 for, though, is the upcoming Resident Evil 8 from Capcom.

Resident Evil 8 pre-orders went live shortly after the Resident Evil showcase event last week, in turn revealing how much the next-generation survival-horror game costs. As it turns out, Resident Evil 8‘s price is a firm $59.99 for the standard edition, regardless of platform. This could be due to Resident Evil 8 being a cross-gen game as opposed to a next-gen exclusive, though it’s worth pointing out that there once was a time when the game was only planned for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, so maybe Capcom always planned on the $59.99 price point regardless.

Resident Evil 8 price parity extends to other editions of the game as well. The Resident Evil 8 Deluxe Edition will cost $69.99 regardless of what platform players buy it for, while the RE8 Collector’s Edition costs $219.99.

Resident Evil 8‘s base price being $59.99 doesn’t necessarily mean that Capcom will be sticking with this price for the entire generation, though. It’s entirely possible that future Capcom games will be priced at $69.99, especially when the PS4 and Xbox One consoles are phased out and the company is developing games exclusively for next-generation platforms instead. For now, though, it seems as though fans of Capcom’s games don’t have to worry about paying more just yet.

Those who are weary about spending $59.99 on the Resident Evil 8 base game should know that they will get a chance to try it before they buy. A Resident Evil 8 demo is already available for PS5 owners that’s designed to give fans a taste of what to expect from the game’s graphics and audio design. Capcom has said that another Resident Evil 8 demo is in the works as well, and this one will be coming to more platforms than just the PS5. Perhaps this second demo will give players a deeper dive into Resident Evil 8‘s gameplay and allow fans to make an even more-informed purchasing decision.

More on the next demo should come to light prior to Resident Evil 8‘s release date in May.

Resident Evil 8 launches May 7 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
