Tekken director keen to make another Pokemon fighting game with Pokken sequel

Tekken veteran and Bandai Namco producer Katsuhiro Harada would like to work with Nintendo and The Pokemon Company on a Pokken sequel.

Pokken Tournament is one of many Pokemon spin-off games, and it ended up being quite popular amongst fighting game aficionados for its creative, 3D-fighter take on the Pokemon brand.

The game, which was first introduced to the world in Japanese arcades back in 2015, ended up being ported to Wii U and Nintendo Switch and has attracted a loyal fanbase over the past few years.

As we nudge ever closer to Pokemon’s 25th-anniversary celebrations later this year, some players have been wondering what’ll become of the well-received spin-off series. As it happens, Harada – who heads up the Tekken franchise and oversees fighting game development at Bandai Namco – would be eager to work with Nintendo and The Pokemon Company again.

“We have a good relationship with Nintendo and Pokemon Co., Ltd., and Pokkén has had a great response, so I would like to make it again,” the often outspoken director wrote in a tweet (via VGC). “But it’s not what we decide, it’s what they decide.”

For what it’s worth, Bandai Namco and The Pokemon Company seem to have a pretty solid working relationship; the publisher and developer is working with The Pokemon Company on the New Pokemon Snap, for example.

It doesn’t sound like anything is in the works regarding Pokken at the time of writing, but you can look forward to a Katy Perry collaboration and maybe even a Diamond and Pearl remake, too.
