One of the biggest video games of 2020 was undoubtedly Animal Crossing: New Horizons from Nintendo. The game was a massive sales success for the company, and has proven to be one of the top Switch system sellers. Some expected Nintendo to back off on the Animal Crossing: New Horizons updates in 2021, but the company confirmed that wouldn’t be the case. In fact, it has since revealed yet another free update coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and it will be available in just a couple of days.
The Animal Crossing: New Horizons January update arrives on January 28, and it will primarily be preparing the game for the Festivale event happening in February. On February 15, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players and their villagers will be celebrating Festivale with new NPC, Pave the Peacock. Pave previously appeared in Animal Crossing: New Leaf on the 3DS, but this is the first time the character has appeared in New Horizons.
Like previous Animal Crossing: New Horizons holiday events, players have a specific goal when participating in Festivale. On February 15, colored feathers will be falling from the sky, and players will need to catch them with their net and deliver them to Pave. The event will conclude at night time, where the player will seemingly have a chance to pull off a pose for a unique photo opportunity.
More details about what the Animal Crossing: New Horizons January update entails have yet to be revealed. It’s possible that the update will do more than just prepare the game for Festivale; it may include some quality of life changes and bug fixes as well. Previous Animal Crossing: New Horizons updates have taken the opportunity to improve the game while also adding new content, and there’s no reason to believe that the January 28 update will be any different.
Meanwhile, fans can still expect plenty more Animal Crossing: New Horizons updates in 2021. The trailer for the Festivale update concludes by confirming that the game’s next free update will be dropping at some point in March, and it will apparently be Super Mario-themed. March marks the 1 year anniversary of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, so it seems this update will be pulling double duty of celebrating both New Horizons‘ anniversary as well as the Super Mario 35th anniversary.
It’s likely that Nintendo will continue supporting Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the long haul, with more updates later in 2021 as well. For now, though, Animal Crossing fans can look forward to Festivale on February 15 and the next update on January 28.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
