Dead Space Fans Are Celebrating The Sequel’s 10th Anniversary

It’s been a long time since Dead Space 2 first launched in 2011, reinventing the series with a heavier action leaning that still managed to keep many of the quality scares of the original. So, it’s little surprise that players have been celebrating the 10 year anniversary of Dead Space 2, especially as the recent announcement of Calisto Protocol has hyped up the nostalgia of fans for the series.

As a result of this recent anniversary, fans have been quick to share their favorite stories from Dead Space 2 in celebration of the legacy that the series still maintains. The stories range from initial runs through the game to comparisons of the original to its sequel, as well as the fading experience of waiting out in front of GameStop for midnight releases.

A huge amount of this sharing has been happening all over Twitter, where fans have been quick to recount exactly what Dead Space 2 and the series as a whole has meant to them. Considering the way that Visceral Games was unceremoniously liquidated shortly after the critical failings of Dead Space 3, there are some very mixed feelings towards this series these days. However, even with Dead Space‘s legacy in the condition that it is, that doesn’t mean that players didn’t feel it necessary to share their positive feelings towards what action fans still consider to be the best game in the trilogy.

Many of the fans reacting to the game are responding to larger threads being spread by The Game Awards and On This Day In Gaming, who took to Twitter earlier in the day to remind fans of the game’s importance for the series. Some players are even continuing to comment on some of Dead Space 2‘s most iconic scenes and how the game has impacted them by either introducing them to horror or bringing them into the fold for the series. With the title now hitting the 10 year mark, seeing that anniversary pass is flaring up feelings of nostalgia for tons of fans that fell in love with the dark, imposing atmosphere of Dead Space.

Naturally, there are quite a few fans who are also taking this opportunity to comment on the title that came after Dead Space 2, which expanded on the lore, but also delved into being a generic shooter. Hopefully some of the development that was meant to go into Dead Space 4 will be present in The Calisto Protocol, but it’s likely fans will never really get answers to every question the series bought up. Still, Dead Space 2 is now a classic title that drew tons of players into the series and fans will likely continue to appreciate what it was as future anniversaries pass.

Dead Space 2 is available now for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
