The Scott Pilgrim game was a miracle by all accounts. First of all, it is a literal miracle because it was canceled, then came together after a short amount of work following just a few months. Even though it was rushed through development by a small Ubisoft staff, it was praised by fans of the comic on top of video game reviewers. This is the second surprising thing since most rushed licensed games turn out poorly.
Yet the team somehow managed to give every character their own ending. While short, they are appreciated all the same and easy to accomplish. All one has to do is beat the final boss with a character and their ending will be unlocked. Do this with the main four (Scott, Kim, Stephen, and Ramona) and Nega Scott will be unlocked who also has his own ending. In total there are seven playable characters, translating to seven endings but only one true canonical ending.
7 Scott’s Ending
“Scott was saddened by Ramona’s departure but only for a little while. Soon he was dating Knives, Kim, and Envy all at once. He was the happiest guy in the world…or was he?” This might be the most ridiculous ending in the game.
It shows Scott having no growth as a character at all. The fact that he thinks he can date three girls at once is proof of that, especially with Envy. It is funny even though it doesn’t make any sense. This would essentially turn the comic into a harem, which might actually be a fun read.
6 Kim’s Ending
“Kim walked toward Scott, smiling suggestively. Scott was nervous. What could she want? But then she walked straight past him and walked into the sunset with Knives Chau.”
This is odd considering it is never really addressed in the comic that Kim is a gay character. This is mostly based on a one-panel joke in the comic where Scott finds Knives and her making out when they are drunk. That’s it. It is never addressed again, making this ending quite unexpected.
5 Stephen’s Ending
“Sex Bob-omb played a fantastic show. 65,536 people cheered from the crowd. It was raining money for some reason. They were signed to a record label for a million dollars. Maybe it was all a dream.”
Stephen finishing up with Joseph would have made more sense than Kim ending up with Knives. That’s because the last book reveals that Joseph and Stephen had secretly been dating while working on Sex Bob-omb’s album. This explains why Stephen and Julie were always on the rocks. Dating history aside, this is a fun ending that showcases Stephen’s other love, aka hitting it big with the band.
4 Knives’ Ending
“Knives jumped into Scott’s arms and kissed him. Suddenly confetti fell from the sky. It was their wedding day. Knives looked lovely in her gown. All of Scott’s friends were there to see. Scott was very confused.”
This is pretty on point with Knives’ character. Even though the comics’ canonical ending has Knives seemingly getting over Scott, that doesn’t mean a small part of her would not die to make this wedding happen. Either way, the fact that the text notes Scott is confused makes this ending even funnier.
3 Wallace’s Ending
There are no words to Wallace’s ending. He simply sits atop a throne, drinking wine while the crowd cheers and confetti rains down from the heavens. It is rather cheap. The last DLC character released, a lot of his moves are borrowed from other characters.
Between his gameplay and this ending, it’s pretty clear that Wallace’s character was probably rushed through production. Wallace deserves a lot better than this. Let him run around in his underwear in some kind of parade with all of his random lovers. That would tie in nicely with the comics sans the parade bit.
2 Nega Scott’s Ending
“Nega Scott smiled to himself. He was now the ruler of the entire universe. Everything was ruined. It was so great. He happily sent everyone off to the salt mines. What a big day. Phew. Time for bed.”
Are salt mines even a thing anymore? It’s a weird place to take this ending although that’s not to say it isn’t funny. This random humor is exactly why people love these comics in the first place, so Nega Scott forcing everyone to work in salt mines is actually, upon thinking on it, a perfect end for his character in the wackiest way possible.
1 Ramona’s Ending
“Despite the struggles that had brought them together, Scott and Ramona knew they had something special. Together they headed into the future ready for anything.”
This is the only ending that says “congratulations,” which should clue players in that this is the canonical ending from the book. The book, the game, and the film all have the same conclusion, although getting to this point is drastically different between all three properties. It would be weird if Scott and Ramona didn’t run off together given the quest they go on. It would have been a bummer but thankfully that’s not the case.
