Deep Rock Galactic recently reached an impressive sales milestone, selling more than two million units. The co-op title continues to add to its fanbase, growing what is arguably one of the biggest sleeper hits of last year.
Deep Rock Galactic is a co-op shooter from Danish developer Ghost Ship Games that evokes titles like Left 4 Dead, but instead of humans trying to escape a zombie apocalypse it’s about space dwarves trying to steal precious ore from hordes of aliens. Initially released in early access on Steam roughly two years ago, the title made its official debut on the platform in addition to Xbox One in May 2020. Despite not getting the same coverage as other standouts such as Among Us and Fall Guys, Deep Rock Galactic has managed to amass a player base of nearly 1.8 million in the past eight months alone.
Various impressive stats the title has accrued are detailed in a graphic posted on the game’s official Twitter account today. There are many numbers compiled on the graphic worth boasting about, but some of most impressive lie within its user data. While most titles struggle to retain a player base, as is the case with Cyberpunk 2077‘s player count, Deep Rock Galactic has managed to almost triple its player base from 2019 to 2020.
Many fans attribute the game’s success to not only its fun and addictive gameplay, but its humor and charm. Whether it be the humorous dialogue, barrel shenanigans, or the adorably killable loot bugs, Deep Rock Galactic seems to have mined its way into the hearts of many gamers.
Deep Rock Galactic is available now on PC and Xbox One.
