Several days ago, Capcom held a huge showcase event that detailed some of the Resident Evil franchise’s upcoming projects. The biggest announcements revealed at the event mostly revolved around Resident Evil: Village, such as its release date, characters, and more. However, towards the end of the showcase event, Capcom also revealed another new project called Re: Verse.
Prior to the event, reports surfaced that Capcom is about to launch a beta test for a new multiplayer game, and it happens to be the beta for Re: Verse. Initially, many thought that Re: Verse is the multiplayer component for Resident Evil: Village, similar to Resident Evil: Resistance. Although Re: Verse will be released alongside Resident Evil: Village, it is a standalone multiplayer game covering the wider Resident Evil universe in celebration of the franchise’s 25th anniversary.
According to Capcom, Resident Evil Re: Verse is a versus multiplayer game that features four to six-person deathmatch battles. As stated in the upcoming game’s official website, Re: Verse will allow players to participate in 5-minute Deathmatches, where the player who earns the most points wins the round. In typical Resident Evil fashion, players will be able to find weapons and items all around the map to take down even more powerful enemies. One thing that separates Re: Verse from Resident Evil Resistance is when players are taken out; their body mutates into a powerful bioweapon, which can be used to hun down other players. Additionally, players can pick up several Virus Capsules to transform into even stronger bioweapons, allowing them to take the ultimate revenge against the player who killed them.
Alongside the announcement of Re: Verse is a trailer that showed several players wandering around the Raccoon City Police Department. Likely, other locations from the wider Resident Evil universe will also be available in the game. So far, it is confirmed that players will play as one of the four main characters of Resident Evil, which includes Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, and Leon Kennedy. Apart from the heroes, the latest trailer also showed some of Resident Evil’s most iconic foes, such as Nemesis, Tyrant, Hunk, and Jack Baker from Resident Evil 7.
Given that Re: Verse will be bundled alongside Resident Evil: Village, players interested in trying out the multiplayer game should expect its release on May 7, 2021, for the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Additionally, players would be happy to know that Re: Verse will be available to all Resident Evil: Village owners at no additional cost, which means that similar to Resident Evil 3 Remake, players will be getting two games for the price of one.
It is worth noting for console players that since Re: Verse is an online game, players on the PS4 and PS5 would need an active PS Plus subscription to access the game, while those on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S are required to have an Xbox Live Gold membership to play. At the moment, it is unclear whether Re: Verse will support crossplay, but it is worth noting that Resident Evil: Resistance does not include a crossplay feature, so it is likely that Re: Verse will be the same.
Resident Evil: Village and Resident Evil Re: Verse will both launch worldwide on May 7, 2021, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
