In the gaming community, load times and laggy online sessions have long been the bane of players’ existence. Next-generation consoles are already implementing steps to eliminate long loading times. A new patent filed by Take-Two Interactive could change everything players know about the way online sessions work for its games.
Online game sessions with many of Rockstar’s games like Grand The Auto Online and Red Dead Redemption 2 cause a lot of impatience for players. Long loading times and stalling in the online sessions can become incredibly frustrating. For Grand Theft Auto players, the loading screens have even become a meme in the community, because there isn’t a viable way for players to speed up load times and help them game find a session faster. PS4 servers, for example, are sometimes nearly inaccessible for players because of GTA Online session connection issues.
The goals for the patented system are pretty simple. In short, it allows players to join up with and move between multiplayer sessions seamlessly, reduce loading and stalling prior to joining and during sessions. What this means is that it should in theory make it take less time to find and join sessions, reduce the length of time players spend staring at loading screens, and improve the overall experience and responsiveness of the environment while playing.
Even if GTA 6 won’t be coming soon, this latest patent is fantastic news for players waiting on Grand Theft Auto 6 or Red Dead Redemption 3. If effective, this system will relieve a lot of problems fans have with the games. Entering missions won’t take nearly as long, and neither will leaving them and getting back into the open-world sessions. Infinite load screens should essentially be eliminated.
The system is also going to help players in open-world environments. There should be much less stalling or lagging as players move throughout the world. More realistic reactions with NPCs should come from this for players individually, and they will be able to see the effects of other players in the world much more obviously. CD Projekt Red is another team that has been developing systems for seamless multiplayer environments for Cyberpunk 2077.
Overall, players will be able to have a much smoother experience and not have to deal with the same problems from the past. The systems will be presumably available for all of Take-Two Interactive’s studios, from Rockstar to 2K. Any future titles in Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, NBA 2K, Borderlands, Civilization, and many others will all potentially benefit from these systems.
